Elevator locked at high speed

Featured Replies

Hello there everyone,Maybe someone could help me with this doubt I have.In MD11 during approach, sometimes if speed is high the aileron gets locked and it moves fully up or fully down so the aircraft jumps. When speed decreases, elevator gets free of movement and it can be moved up or down softly. Is this a simulated performance, is it a bug or (I doubt it) does it simulate the real aircraft? Thanks very much for your time and help.Best regards,Xiropillo

I think it has to do with the LSAS. The MD-11 has an elevator that is a bit too small for the aircraft so LSAS supplements the stability of the aircraft. It also provides overspeed and stall protection. Best advise would be to try to be stabilized on speed and attitude during approach and you shouldn't have any problems.See this website (post #5) for a complete description: http://www.pprune.org/tech-log/406681-md-11-lsas.html

Thanks very much Kenny. I will read it twice or ten times because it is too complicated for me...I was doubting about a bug due that nobody is complaining in the forum but movement seems too unrealistic to be as real for my opinion.I will try to avoid high speeds.Best regards,Xiropillo

Have you tried to make an approach with another aircraft? Maybe the joystick is having some spikes. All I know is that I have never had any kind of control surface locking problem with the MD11.Manfred
