Scenery Recommendations?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking it's about time to upgrade my scenery, and I'm looking for some recommendations.I'd like to get something for as large an area as possible, the world if available, not just one or two airports.I'm really not sure what I'm looking for, but I definitly want the terrain to be covered with autogen. Even photo textures are no good without 3D objects on top :)Based on the sketchy info I've given, can anyone make some recommendations?

There aren't any addons that focus on simply giving you autogen everywhere... UTX will give you real life roads and waters (and things like that) for large regions (US, Europe) and GEX will give you better looking ground textures for large regions (US, Europe). You could also go for landclass addons which simply rearrange the default FSX textures to make the world look a bit better. Most other scenery addons focus on smaller regions or just airports. But again, as I said, there is no pure autogen addon... At least not that I know of.Do you fly high and dry or low and slow? Or both? Where would you like to fly?

I fly both low and high, mostly in North America but some other places from time to time. When I mentioned autogen, I know that there have been some products that gave photo ground textures, but the were just flat buildings, rather than objects. To me, that takes away a huge amount of the realism of having buldings and treees and everything.

Try ORBX Australia and USA...

Ah, ok, so you just don't want photoreal scenery. Well, if you want 'the world', so large regions, get the US from UTX and/or GEX (they can be used together: see my description above). But I would personally go for smaller regions that look better then UTX and GEX and that would be Orbx's regions, for instance (since you fly in the US) PNW, NRM and CRM, which together cover quite a large region. That scenery is superior to UTX and GEX (imho). It's the best there is for low and slow but also for flying high it's great.

Lets keep it real simple.. for your first addon scenery: Orbx USA PNW.There are some freeware airports you can download as well, and the Portland skyline..Then go fly all over Oregon / Washington / Southern BC... gorgeous scenery, done with lots of attention to detail. And if you are not really sure - download the free PNW demo first!
