Briefing Time 7th ed VC glass

Featured Replies

I've been flying an earlier version of the FS9 Briefing Time for a couple of years, and decided to treat myself to a birthday gift by upgrading to the 7th Edition. My CD arrived today, and I'm already up and flying.Everything is as expected. Thanks for the great job. There is one thing I noticed, however, that is different from my older version.Apparently, I am not getting any glass textures in the VC. There are no glass reflections nor overhead green shading. The texture folders are identical to my older version (which I still have intact, on an external drive), and the glas_t.bmp and glas_gr_t.bmp are present.Anyway to get my glass textures back? Or was this a tradeoff for the updated VC?Thanks--WH

Warhorse47. I had a simular problem with my addon textures......I posted a fix here sometime back on adding textures.....You only need 3 textures, a thumbnail, and texture CFG from another paint. Its a very simple fix, and works great....You can add any texture for BT to this.

Thanks, Trucker. I'll search for you post, but I'm not certain it will address the issue. The missing glass textures are in FS9 on a fresh install using the paints that came with the install. So far, I've flown four variations with both models, and the results are the same. I'll keep at it. In the meantime I'll wait for a response from Bill.--WH

Thought I would add some more infomation on this issue. As I mentioned in my first post, I've been flying BT for some time. Specifically, Version 5 with a lot of repaints and no graphic issues. To make sure there were no changes or issues with my graphic settings, this morning I took up the MAAM Avenger and one other a/c and everything was normal - meaning, there were no issues with transparency or reflectivity or glass textures.Yesterday I did a little experiment and swapped out the two Ver. 7 glass textures with those from Ver. 5. The glas_t.bmp appeared briefly, but then dissappeared which implied that something was prohibiting them from showing. BTW - there are differences between the two, but the the texture files for glas_gr_t.bmp are identical. Anyways, I'm still not able to get the glass textures to show in the VC. They do appear in spot view, but just not in that lovely, functional VC cockpit. :(--WH

War Horse. Try useing just these textures. for the paint you want.I had the same issue.....first no glass reflections, then grey in place of glass.... The main texture folder for BT has the glass in it, after i made this change to my file for Pacific prowler, the aircraft was just like all the others that come with the download.....Hope this helps.....P.S. Save the folder, or removed textures, incase the problem is not fixed.....Folder: texture.Pacificb25_fuse_tb25_hsurf_tb25_hsurf2_tb25_m1_tb25_nose_twheelmaintexture cfg ( From preloaded texture).thumbnailThese are the main fuse picts in the texture file, and the only ones needed....

Trucker, nice try but your solution does not work.First, I want to emphasize that this is for FS 2004, not FSX. FS 2004 does not use the texture.cfg nor thumbnail as you mentioned.Second, my Version 7.0 install did not have the textures for the 'Pacific Prowler.' I did have the textures added to my Version 5.0 setup, so I copied the texture.pacific folder over the the Version 7.0 and added the missing textures for the updated VC. Again, there is no glass showing in the VC cockpit. All I can rationalzie at the moment is that the two models that came with the FS9 install are corrupted, or perhaps they are the simplified models or something. Since my CD does have the FSX install (which I wanted for my someday, future new PC), I might trying extracting the FSX install and swapping out the mdl files to see if they are fix the problem. Thanks for trying.--WH

Well, I'm halfway there.By changing the alpha channel in b25_glasvcfrt.bmp, I was able to get glass reflections in the cockpit. I still haven't figured out how to get the overhead greenhouse back. The other texture files look fine.--WH

Sorry my fix did'nt work for you.... Sounds like your on the right track though.... Like me, everything is trial and error untill the right combo is found....I will check my files....I might still have my copy of BT for 2004.... I am useing FSX now, so dont have much need for it....

I still have my 2004 download of BT.....Let me know if you want to try dissecting it....Mine was an online download from MAAM, not the CD....

No, I don't think that is necessary. And I don't think that would be legal, either.Lets give it some time for Bill to respond. --WH

Okay. One more observation for the MAAM Team to assist me.Here is a screenshot of the VC in day time. Notice that there is no green tint overhead. It is visible in spot view, BTW.DaytimeVC.jpgHere is the same shot some four hours later. If you look closely you'll notice that there is some green tint showing at night, so apparently the texture is properly mapped... just not dark enough for daytime.NighttimeVC.jpgRegardless of this issue, I'm still getting in a lot of flight time with the new VC. I've also added some 16 additional repaints as well as my own Shockwave lighting.Cheers--WH

Well, nuts. No response yet from Bill Rambow. Guess I gotta send him an e-mail.--WH

  • 2 weeks later...

He hasn't responded to my e-mail, nor has he posted on the support forum for awhile. We'll just need to be patient.Thanks--WH

Still no response from Bill or anyone from MAAM. I wonder if they are still providing support? I didn't think my issue was that complex. This is highly unusal.--WH
