Best RAM for FSX?

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm sorry to bring my subject about stuttering up again. But perhaps this will also help other people making the right choice for buying RAM.So, I have a great system, but having stuttering, lagging, even though my framerate is high. This is just how FSX will always run, it's just FSX being FSX. But, I read that some fast RAM with tight timings might reduce the stuttering quite well. I currently have Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 kit, which is quite slow. Well, I'm now thinking about upgrading RAM. Yes, I know it's not gonna do much to framerate, but I'm focused on the stutters for the moment. I've read some stories from people having tested FSX with CL7 RAM vs CL9, and they got same framerate, but less stuttering with CL7. Now my question is, which is the best choice? So a few questions:I want RAM with the highest possible clockspeed together with the lowest possible latency, any recommendations?Does it matter in terms of performance if I take 2x 4GB or 4x 2GB? Cuz I would like to have 8GB's of RAM.

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3Works great on my I7. Thats what you have listed in your build question.

That's pretty much identical memory that I have now. I have many little lags still with it. I'm looking for 1600 / CL7 memory, and this is 1600 / CL9 which is quite slow. Oh and btw, I did not ask any build question at all.

ArjenYou are using a SB cpu which has a fixed FSB and RAM speed and latency will have very little effect, so your present RAM is good and I don't think that you will better it.I doubt that you are experiencing lag due to RAM more likely due to the FSX plus add-ons codes and other factors including oc, incorrect RAM settings for FSB, and so on.RegardsPeterH

Have you tested it yourself then? As I said, people tested CL9 vs CL7 RAM, and got significantly less stuttering with CL7 RAM. Please guys. Don't try to tell me that it doesn't work if you don't tested it.The title of the topic is simple: I'm looking for some good CL7 RAM with some tight timings. I just need some recommendations.

Arjen, get these:http://dk.bestintest.../130432235.htmlBeen doing a search for you, and apparently The Netherlands don't have any CL7 Ram!Nothing to be found, try it yourself:http://club.myce.com...tailers-253011/
Yeah have been looking at these set as well. Do you know of any set with even tighter timings and high clockspeed at the same time? Doesn't matter if it isn't sold here in the Netherlands, I will find a way to get them. :)

No, sorry I don´t.Get them from Newegg, US - impossible to get in Europe it seems.

Also impossible to get at Newegg, out of stock. Any other RAMs with similar timings and speed (other brand)?

Yes, I know, it´s a problem.. 2x4 kits has slower timings, I didn´t post them obviously, since you want the fast ones.Ok, look at my signature - 2x2 Gb GSkill Ripjaws, and I've never had any "out of mem error" or other problem, so it's your choice...2x2x2x2?Not a good combo, the experts says 2x4.

I would prefer 8GB just to be sure I will be fine. But, one set that is good and that is still in stock is the G.Skill Ripjaws 2133 CL9. Well, I know that 2133/CL9 will give very similar performance to 1600/CL7 in normal cases. But I dunno how that would work in FSX. Perhaps FSX likes tight timings, or fast clockspeeds of RAM. Yes, it won't do much to framerate, but fast RAM will reduce stuttering I read.

Relax Arjen, do you suffer from "FSX OCD" or what??Read this - IMO the Numero Uno authority with regards to FSX, and many other things...http://www.simforums...995.html#242995

We really could use a sticky in these forums answering these questions that are oft-repeated. A FAQ, anyone? Srdan? One that's realistic, Word Not Allowed. Realistic.
