Best RAM for FSX?

Featured Replies

Uhhh..... a FAQ. I could imagine it going for some typical answer, like Affinity Mask or something. The thing is though, hardware changes - best RAM today is not same as best RAM in two months. I'm not ready to update the FAQ every little while the hardware goes with an update. But which questions did you have in mind? Hit me...

I was thinking the typical stuff. Most folks come in saying "I want to build the best FSX rig" and are considering an AMD X4. Or a GTS 420. I doubt it'd take too much time to keep a FAQ up to date. It's that initial writing that would be the true pain in the &@($*.I'm sure, like myself, there's a few regulars that would contribute if you didn't want to go it alone. Just a thought.

I'll think about it. It's definitely a good idea...

This topic is subjective, and speaking of perceived stutters only on SB, there appears to be less fluctuations between ram type and timmings vs the previous generations i7's. From my subjective opinion on SB's up to 4.6-5.0ghz ram of either 2133 cl 9 or 8 or 1600 cls 6 or 7 is best. 1600 at cl9 or 8 gave me the most stutters, but that maybe placebo effect. Dazz did some tests which are on here which show 2133 ram gave a few more fps than lower settings on SB I think. If memory serves there are excel attachments done in FSX showing results...

Happy to hear this. Just ordered my G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB 1600 CL7 (7-8-7-24), tightest timings I could find for 8GB 1600 / CL7. Let's hope it will help. Within the next few weeks I'm also gonna order the EVGA GTX 580 DS Superclocked. Alltoghether I will have quite a monster system by then. If that doesn't help then I dunno it anymore lol. :LMAO:

Well when I ran my DDR3 1600 and 1600 instead of 1333, I got .5-1 fps faster and that was in the low 50s range. I set my RAM speed back down to 1333 even though it's spec'd for 1600 by the manufacturer as I did not think it was worth it keeping my memory running at 1600 (my CPU does not officially support anything faster than DDR3 1333 and I"m not an overclocker).
