February 22, 201214 yr How realistic is descending using standard VNAV/LNAV combined with IAN where one should expect using ILS. ILS approach is chosen in FMC. So..using IAN (by hitting the APP button) so it follows the ILS glide path down to minimums or FAF and then taking over manually (turning off A/P and A/T). I think it works quite well in PMDG. Is it realistic? Good weather conditions. Any risks performing this kind of approach -geir Geir Hansen
February 22, 201214 yr Not sure if I follow you there... IAN on an ILS glide path ? Technically, and ILS has a glide slope, not a glide path. An IAN has a glide path (which is calculated by the FMC).Not an expert, but I don't think you can mix both approaches. You either fly an RNAV approach in IAN mode, or you fly an ILS approach with an ILS frequency. The only "hybrid" you could possibly use is flying a VOR approach (thus without glideslope) with the help of an IAN calculated glide path.I'm no expert so if I'm wrong, please correct me. February 25, 201214 yr Mathieu, if you do not tune in ILS, aircraft will fly the ILS approach in IAN mode. --Peter Fabian
