I was on final to JFK switching from VC to Locked Spot. I'm not sure you've isolated the problem yet. Try eliminating things that might complicate the task of understanding the problem such as vatsim, add on scenery etc. I've never had a problem with the FSDT JFK, but neither have I ever had a crash on switching cameras. You may also open a trouble ticket at the pmdg support portal, but please share the solution when you find it.

I had the same issue with aproaches on EHRD on IVAO. After some research (trial and error) is turned out to be scenery-related.
