March 14, 200422 yr Author Mick,Cruise speed specifications are usually given as absolute speed over the ground. For example LearJet: 440 knots.Your instruments, however, will show an indicated airspeed of only 280 knots (KIAS) at 35,000 feet (because of the thin air, as you mentioned..)If you you open up the GPS, you can read the groundspeed which will correspond to the cruise speed specs!
