Unsure whether this is the wrong section so apologies if that is the case. I hope someone can help with this issue. I have recently purchased a set of Sennheiser headphones and while the quality is excellent, the volume is very low. I have the volume at maximum elsewhere in Windows and the sound CP. The only way I can get any volume which is of any use at all is to push all the volume sliders up high in the FSX CP, but when I do that the cockpit, engine and ambient sound simply overwhelms the ATC. It's extremely frustrating. So I guess my question is, is there any way I can increase the ATC volume, outside of the CP? Thanks guys...

Howard, in the FSX sound settings, I have all the sliders set at 50% except the voice slider which I have at 100% That way, ATC is always louder than the engine. Works a treat with my Sennheiser's.Russell.

Hi Russell, sure, but the problem is that when all the sliders are set at 50% are not loud enough!

Oh right. With those settings I can blow my head off with the volume control. It sounds as though the problem is in your sound card settings. I have creative 2.1 with SB X-FI Xtreme audio card. Have a look at your sound card CP and make sure the volume is full on.Russell.

Are those Sennheiser with 3,5 connectors or USB? For USB, you can usually set up the volume in the windows CP separately, FSX can also be set I think to use the headset for the voice... not sure for the 3,5 though, since I only have USB.

Thanks Russell. Hi Word Not Allowed, sure, it's the 3.5 jack plugs and not the USB connector I'm afarid. I can set the volume separately though. The volume is on max in Windows and in the separate Realtek control panel. It is the Realtek onbard sound with the Asus P8Z68-V MB. I have spent months trying to get the right sound from the PMDG and the only way I can get the sound to be OK is to run it in stereo. I undertsood that the PMDG sound had been developed for 5.1 surround sound, not sure if I am right on this score. Another problem I find, is that when I use the headphones, the ATC sounds like it's coming down a drainpipe... nope, it's not any equalisation either, as everything in that department is set without any FX.All in all, my experience with the sound department has been rather abysmal. Maybe the option is to get my hands on a separate sound card?

Sorry, then I can't help you as I have very little experience about that. I have no 5.1, I have 2x normal stereo, and a separate USB headset, so basically 3 soundcards and I regulate each separately.

Try this out and let me know how it works for you. Set your sound device in FSX for your voice sounds and set a volume. do the same for all other sounds.. Then in your NGX go into the CDU under options and sounds and set your device for NGX sounds. I have mine set at like 20% volume so that I can make out the ATC traffic. This lets me have all of my NGX interior sounds in my headset but at a lower volume then ATC traffic. Hope that works for you.
