March 1, 201214 yr Hi guysBeen on the fence for awhile about wether to overclock my rig, since it was fairly new rig Ive been abit paranoid about fiddling around in the Bios area. After watching a brief video about the new Ezi bios options that alow for an easy overclock at a click of a button I decided to give it a go.Managed to OC to about 4.3ghz from 3.8ghz and..........wow what a difference Im getting around +10 fps in the most demanding of areas of FSX(I also disabled HT)But when looking at my temperatures they skyrocketed atleast by 20c in some cases to mid 70's to low 80's, Ive since disabled this and gone back to 3.8ghzIs this true? From what I know my systems got pretty good cooling already, is it time to upgrade the cooling?(aircooled) Ive been reading plenty of threads from people with identical rigs to mine that are achieving this OC easily with aircooled systems.I would be quite happy to stay at 4.3ghz since I'm more than happy with the results..... But the temperature readings are a real concern. Can someone please give us some advice on this...Thanks in advance Edited March 1, 201214 yr by sparks86 Ash Hitchcock
March 1, 201214 yr Low 80's with 4.3Ghz seem very very high.Which aircooler do you have? Also what is your room temperature? You should be getting around 60-70c with an aftermarket at those Ghz.That said, many are running 4.8 with an aftermarket and going around 80c I believe.
March 1, 201214 yr Author Hey kostaSorry mate wouldnt have a clue what sort of aircooled system I have. The front of the fans say Intel so with that I'm assuming its gonna have stock cooling. The room temperature is around 25c-30c but if Ive got the A/C on then maybe low 20'sAlso I'm using a program called "core Temp 1.0 RC3" to measure my CPU temperaturesWith an overclock 3.8Ghz my fsx temps hover in the low to mid 60's. March 1, 201214 yr OK, Intel stock cooling is notoriously known for bad results when doing overclocking. You can OC a bit, but not much. You need third party cooler, which when installed properly, will keep you quite cool up to 4.6 at least.
March 2, 201214 yr Hi GuysI had recently discussed on a topic about over clocking and the difficulties I was having, my pc just kept crashing but now after researching it more I think I have started to understand it better, I think. The concern I have now is that I went from I7 3930k (3.2) up to 3.8 and it looks stable but if I examine the properties of my PC,(right click properties on my computer) the line just below the windows rating bit, it reads "Intel® Core i7-3930KCPU @3.2GHz 5.90GHz" where before it said @ 3.2 GHz 3.8GHz. What's going on, even after resetting back to default and rebooting the 5.9 doesn't change back to 3.8.Cheers Shaun
March 2, 201214 yr the line just below the windows rating bit, it reads "Intel® Core™ i7-3930KCPU @3.2GHz 5.90GHz" where before it said @ 3.2 GHz 3.8GHz. What's going on, even after resetting back to default and rebooting the 5.9 doesn't change back to 3.8.The best way to accurately gauge your clock speed is through the BIOS or CPU-Z.
March 2, 201214 yr Hi CPZ does say 3.2GHz but i just need to try and understand why windows system information thinks it is clocked at 5.9, where i think if it was it would end up causing damage. Shaun
