My thoughts on Flight - a good thing

Featured Replies

I have downloaded the initial installer, but have yet to download and install Flight. I will be doing so here in the next couple of days or so.I have been reading a lot of posts on this forum, some positive, some negative, some that got deleted - but just wanted to share my thoughts, on why I think Flight may very well be a good thing for the flight sim community.I have been flying FSX now , off and on, since it's initial release. I also had purchased, some previous versions, but cannot say the same for them. I know I had FS 98, and at least one prior to that, along with FS9, but never real got into them. Why I didn't - they were too dang complex. I could not quite get them figured out, but I had not as of yet discovered dedicated forums/newsgroups for the flight sim genre. Now, without any outside assistance, imagine how steep that learning curve had to have been, for one to stick with it and really get into the heart of the sim. So while I had purchased those previous versions, installed them, tried to give them a go, they quickly got shelved. I still have them in boxes around here somewhere...Once I purchased FSX, I had found a newsgroup dedicated to MSFS. I began to ask a lot of questions, and in turn got a lot of assistance. This greatly reduced the learning curve for me, and I have stuck with, and gotten many, many hours of enjoyment out of FSX, with undoubtedly many more hours to come. But just think about, all those people that probably bought FSX, with no clue about these great forums, who did the same as I had done with previous versions, spent a few minutes trying to get them figured out, then shelved them. I will just about guarentee you, those numbers were huge.I personally think MS may be on to something here, introducing basically a core product, a demo if you will, that is simple and easy to learn , and from what I gather from reading somewhat fun. Then they start to introduce DLC, that adds a little more to the sim, and allows the player to drill down into it a little deeper. This may be, just what is needed, to capture many of those like I was in those years past, that just gave up on the sim.Yes I would have loved, to have gotten FS11, which gave us everything that FSX did and more, but it was not to be. At least there is now a new FS by MS, that can be built upon and if successfully , rest assured they will build upon it. And perhaps grow the flight sim community much larger than it is now. Like most any hobbies, they need new blood coming in, to keep them alive and going, or else they stagnate and wither away.I look at Flight as a new born baby, and it will be very interesting to see what it may grow into... and I look forward to installing and giving it a try here shortly.Anyway, that's my nickel or dime's worth...

It was worth far more tham a nickel and a dime. It's always refreshing to find another that can manage to catch the strategic vision for Flight's future. :Peace:

After putting it thru its paces quite a bit today I find I am feeling exactly the same about Flight as I am Xplane 10.Both have some unbelievable great things, new innovations, imagination, and then some things not so great. Both have unbelievable potential to be better-perhaps stellar in the future.I'll be using both, and I hope the potential is reached for both...and it is great to have a bunch of flight sims now !
