Default ATC keeps asking to change course

Featured Replies

I am now having a 2 hour flight from UUEE to EGLL with MD 11. Tried to generate flight plan using IFR High Alt but it failed and I used direct GPS instead. FYI I'm using fscommander and imported the flightplan using pln2route to PMDG's flight plan folder. They mostly work quite well, but at ROMEL, the ATC keeps making repetitive instructions to turn left heading 235, then back to right heading 265 to resume own navigation. And it is pretty annoying. Now I have canceled IFR. Any idea? thanx.Regards

FS atc is known to be complete rubbish I'm afraid. If you don't want to purchase ATC software or fly on Vatsim/IVAO then your best bet is to do the following -When ATC hand you over to departure or when you reach cruise tune the frequency but don't contact them. You will then be able to fly your whole route including the STAR without being hassled by ATC.For the whole trip you will still see the enroute frequencies, when you are ready to be vectored again (on approach for example) contact the controller and ATC will carry on as normal.Regards

ah right, I should have figured this out, thanks for your quick answer... so by tuning the frequency without making responses will allow me not to acknowledge previous transmissions right? so I'll still get atc assistance when passing TOD until final. Thanks manRegards

Yeah, basically when you tune the new frequency but don't contact them you are still being followed by ATC, as you fly your route the new freq become available to tune but ATC won't hassle you until you actually contact them.I guess it's a bug in fs9 but it works great for flying complex aircraft SIDS/STARS etcRegards

I really enjoy FS ATC.....but then I do not do vectors. To enjoy FS ATC you must select your approach ...if your approach (STAR) is not available you need to write it. (the FS9 database is pretty old now after all)I have been enjoying it for years because I learnt how to use it properly. It always has been poopooed and will continue to be because 99.9% of FSimmers do not know how to use it......in fact I think FS ATC is a marvel and a terrible shame it was not improved at all in FSX.If you wish to use FS ATC properly for an IFR flight first download the real weather and work out the SID and STAR that you will use.For the SID simply write the waypoints of the SID into your FS Flightplan (FS ATC will not do alt constraints however.....the only thing they need to add to make my FS ATC experience pretty complete BTW) all you can do is ignore calls to climb or contact departure later. The important part is the STAR.....work out which one you need and see if the approach is offered in FS ...if it is use it....if not you need to write it (use ADE) Never accept vectors and you will have a big smile on your face as you are cleared for your ILS, RNAV,DME ARC or whatever approach via the correct transition at the correct altitude and know that FS ATC is also looking after your AI.

I can't see how that works, SIDSTARS change all the time real world and when flying online. I have had the expected runway STAR setup in the FMC, used the secondary flight plan as a backup/quick switch for a different STAR/runway and then still had to get heads down and quickly reprogram the arrival to comply with ATC due to a change in weather. That is how it often ends up real world and can't be simulated with default ATC. Also if you keep your AIRAC database up to date then SID/STARS and RNAV approaches can change on a monthly basisDefault FS ATC is about as remote to real world ATC as you can get.To say 99% of users just don't know how to use it is completely wrong. Default ATC is completely inaccurate so others have turned to better options that actually work like real world ATC.Glad you are enjoying it, but you are in the minority.Regards

This problem you describe is indicative to one seen in FSX (Could also occur in FS9) with the PMDG 744 and MD11. It is caused by incorrect formatted FS path in the registry, it's missing the tailing backslash. To fix this use the Flight1 Registry repair utility you can get it here!http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library

Thanks

Yes I am in a minority. I am guessing FS ATC is not used when flying online. When I download the real weather using Activesky I then run my FSflightplan through it and then close activesky.....so I know which runway I will be landing at (it is not going to change). My FS database and SID/STAR's can be updated at a moments notice .....ok give me half an hour. :)
