Graphics very slow after overclocking cpu and bios update

Featured Replies

G'day,A weird issue has occured with my machine. I decided to overclock the CPU which in the process required a BIOS update. I was doing this with a new installation of windows just for the purpose of protecting the original ones. The specs:Gigabyte EX58-u3r rev 1.6i7-920 @ 3.86Ghz6GB G-Skill DDR3 10600 RAMRaid 5 on 3 HDDGeforce GTX 260PSU 700WWin7 32bit UltimateSecond boot install for gamesSingle HDD win 764 bit UltimateThe CPU runs stable no issues there however since the OC (or the bios update) graphics a very sluggish in games especially there a stutters all over. I made sure not to tuch any graphics or PCIE settings during the OC.Windows experience index used to be 6.6 for Graphics now 5.8 3D Mark barely runs. The whole purpose of OC was to be able to run FSX better however now it run on 0.1 FPS!!! The slowest I ever experinced was 13.00 FPS. Other 3d games run ok with very brief pauses, It seems when there is a high CPU usage the grapics card suffers. Could it that it's not getting enoug power? Did a calculation and the rig should not be pullling over 540watts.Reinstalled card and driver on both OS and reinstalled chipset drivers as well.In the 32bit OS it still shows 6.6 for experince index but running games is a no go.What to do?Thanks heaps

Are you sure you ram timings are correct in the BIOS ?

Did you install all the updated drivers?

Sounds like a bios setting is configured wrong. Also maybe update your MB chipset drivers in Windows.

Thanks refer to message "chipset drivers reinstalled (updated:)".OK I think the system might be struggling for power.Ran CPU and GPU stress test at the same time and as soon as the cpu is heavily loaded the GPU perfomrance drops to nothing so it is clear what is happening however could it be as simple as the PSU? It is a 700Watt psu and theoratically the system should not pull over 550W.And another test.Fired up some GPU bencmark tool let it run it was showing consistent 89% grahics card load, fired up IBT and as soon as the CPU got fully loaded the GPU load dropped to 29%. It certainly is a power issues however is it in the tweaking or the actual PSU??? The system is 2.5 years old so capacitor aging could be a problem hence the high power consumption?

May I ask what brand of PSU?There can be a huge difference between a reputable brands 700W PSU and some obscure brands 700W PSU.Just because it says 700W on it doesn't mean it's up for it on the 12V line(s)
