Is it sufficient to run FSX:

Can someone offer an objective analysis of my current system specs and advise me if this sufficient to run FSX? Enough to run quite light FSX.It all depends what you want to run. FSX it not = FSX.Example: Carenado GA, + light scenery, or photoscenery, no INTL airports or lots of AI, yea, sure, you can run itOK.NGX, big INTL airport, AI, ORBX, UTX, addons... no, it's gonna lag as hell.

I had a system with these exact specs about 4 builds ago (think early 2008). Mine was overclocked to 4.1GHz. At this clock, low autogen settings, light scenery density, no AI traffic, and a "complex" aircraft add-on gave me reasonable performance. Somewhere in the 20-25 FPS average. Remember, low scenery settings and no AI traffic. Basically, heavy aircraft like the NGX were a no-go for me because I couldn't stand the laggy performance. FS9 was my primary sim on that rig.If you haven't noticed, I'm echoing what Srdan has posted because he had a similar system "back in the day" (IIRC).

Quite correct. Had E6600 and then E8600, also clocked quite high, if I'm not mistaken 4.0 or 4.2. Coupled with GT8800. FSX was out back then, but for me, the performance was unacceptable over FS9, so back then, I was still on FS9, instead of FSX.

Hey Dom,I would echo the sentiments expressed already. It will run FSX, but certainly with limitations. You will have to tweak and find a compromise between your graphics settings, and what would be decent enough performance for you. Like lower autogen, very little AI, maybe no road or water traffic, etc...You also asked about any suggestions for performance enhancements. I am going on the assumption of trying to upgrade your current system to maybe help somewhat , assuming your not in a position or ready for a new build. Some things that come to my mind:Is that processor overclocked already? I do not remember what the stock clock for that chip was. You have a fairly reasonable cooler, I am thinking maybe you already have overclocked a little, if not - and you are comfortable with overclocking, you may have some room to get a little more out of it.Ram - 2gb of ram is pretty minimal for FSX - 4 gb would certainly be better, or even 6gb if you upgrade the OS - see below.OS - I believe your system would be able to handle Windows 7 64 bit just fine. It is a better OS, two generations above XP, does a better job of managing memory, and by going 64 bit Windows 7, it will utilize more than 4gb of ram. I ran FSX first on XP, then Vista, and then Windows 7 64 bit. FSX really, really likes Windows 7 64 bit.Video Card - a 512 gb video card is minimal for FSX, consider moving up a few generations, to say a GTX 260 which can be had reasonable these days, or even a GTX 460 , preferably with 1gb of ram. Just verify your psu has enough adequate PCIe power connectors for the card - I know my GTX 460 requires 2, think the 260 only required 1.Anwyay, looking at your system those items stuck out as things that could be upgraded that may help your system run FSX a little better...Hope this helps,

Don B
