Andy, thank you very comprehensive and well thought out response. I need to preserve this. You thoughts if i perform this action (as edited from a previous posts:) 1. change the location of the community folder to be something other than C:\Users\mecca\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe and 2. Then create a new folder for example named "MSFS New Community on another drive 3. then changed In the "users ... LoclaCache" folder a file "usercfg.opt", last entry in that file is (or can be inserted if not there) 'InstalledPackagesPath "pathname"'. Some entries may need to be reinstalled maybe. Can this entry be "REM'd" out and the new pathname inserted? Will I lose my addons? What backup is needed in case of emergency? Can I revert back to the original "usercfg.opt" entry? All of this because I cannot move some payware to my custom folder in toto. I purchased a scenery title and had to manually copy and paste the data. which took over an hour to accomplish. So you are able to move payware such as Fenix to the custom folder? And by the way I discovered I had a folder for linker inside the directory for linker on my drive!

I followed your instructions above. However, system will not allow me to move some items from community and none of the contents of official (no privileges). So now what can I do? I really do't want to have to re-install MSFS.

Andy, thanks for the response. Once set up as you have described, can I retain the original c drive reference until satisfied it all works AND THEN delete it? Can I install a new addons linker folder to test everything? Dom

what I meant was on the options page changing the location pointer of the community file from C:\Users\mecca\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache to another drive where a fresh copy of linker would be created.

Thanks for the response. This is driving me crazy. I can move them manually and the link is there, but it takes forever. also: in linker. can you change the location of the community folder to be something other than C:\Users\mecca\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe? Would that be a possible solution? Can I install linker in a new location other than where it resides now in my drive F maybe to drive G? Will I lose my addons? Any other magic I could try? I am using FSX and have just experienced SODE. I installed V1.31, When I load FSX and the Free Flight screen appears, the window which would display the default Cessna, for example, is black and you do not see the selected aircraft. Any help please? Thanks Dom

Thanks for the reply Ric. I usually launch in this order: PFPX -FSX - ASN - Pro-ATC. Your order seems to make more sense. So i should launch ASN first to establish weather. PFPX would need the weather to generate a fight plan for import to FSX. PRO-ATC needs the flight plan to calculate their ATC. Then FSX. I'll try this. Dom

I run FSX on my Win 7 x64 system which has an Intel I7-3770 (not OC) at 3.4 gh on an ASUS P8X77-V Deluxe MB. I have 8mb of system memory. My current video card is a GeForce GTX 560-Ti with 1 mb of graphics memory. Given the limitations of FSX would a GTX-770 or 780 with either 2mb or 4mb of memory improve my system with the heavy load of scenery like FTX and a/c like the PMDG-777? Would my VAS usage benefit from the new card? Thanks Dom

Thanks for the responses. I also use Acronis. When you perform your backups, do you image your entire "C" drive also assuming your FSX installation is on a drive other than "C"?. Are there particular files you specifiy? Dom

I would like to make a backup of my existing FSX installation, My FSX installation and all related scenery and third party programs reside on my drive designated as "F". Does anyone who has made a backup of their FSX have an inventory of those files that were included in their backup scheme including those files installed on the "C" drive by default? thanks Dom

I was scanning FSX for duplicate afcads and i have the following two entries as example: ADE_FTX_ENG_EGNO,BGL BR2_EGNO.BGL (from MyTraffic 2010) Should the MyTraffic 2010 entry be turned off as a duplicate? Does the Orbx entry contain AI aircraft? Thanks Dom
