Mustang Appreciation and a Question

Featured Replies

I was one who avoided the Mustang because of the lack of cockpit, but reconsidered and bought it a couple days ago. Am glad I did for the following reasons--the exterior model is very well done, and the sounds are very good. I remember as a boy (about 65 years ago) hearing the P-51s flying past during practice manuvers as they flew out of a nearby base and practiced strafing runs along a nearby river--absolutely exciting. The MS Mustang does not disappoint. Pressing the F9 key does give a nice clear view, of course, with nothing but the heads-up display, but that's enough to fly by. My question is that, using a joystick hatswitch to scan around, without sight of the cowling, it's difficult to return to a straight-ahead view. I'v searched the keyboard commands, and there seems to be no way to snap back to straight forward view (as you can with FSX by a Shift-Spacebar press). Am I missing something? Otherwise, for those who reject the Mustang out of hand, you might want to reconsider. It's a blast to fly.

Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

I think for me it's more a matter of voting with my dollars... while I'm not militant about having no-cockpit planes, I'd prefer it not to become a trend, therefore the best way to influence that design decision is to abstain from purchase, regardless of the fact I know I'd like to have it.

Indeed, I have my eyepoint movements assigned to hat buttons on my joystic, and eyepoint reset mapped to an individual button so I can easily revert back to the default eyepoint. And I too am with spiffy, I would love to hear the sound of that Mustang engine, but I ain't spending any money on an exterior model only airplane.

I have flown in a P-51D Mustang. It was a great experience, and very loud, when you take the headsets off. I also enjoy seeing and hearing P-51's from a ground view, as well as in flight, from another aircraft. I've bought Captain Sim exterior shells, just for the graphics. I'm not bothered either way, on this subject...........as I often sim fly from ground and spot views, too. I do fly real planes as well as R/C. Either way works for me!

Many thanks, Ramon, backspace does the trick!

I haven't purchased the Mustang yet because of it being only the Basic version, but I am wondering if/when MS upgrades it to the Deluxe version, those who already purchased it will get the upgrade for free.I'm guessing that if they upgrade it to the Deluxe version the price will go up to $14.99 like the Maule. If I new this for sure, I would purchase it now. Has there been any word from MS that there will eventually be a Deluxe version?

No that I am aware of - I think their main purpose with the P51, was to judge how an exterior only model would fare with the community, ie would they buy it or not...I am hoping it does not fare too well, as I will flat out refuse to buy exterior only model - way too arcadish for my likes, and I would really like the Mustang, but not without the cockpit.

Every time I sit down for a session with Flight I find myself very tempted to go ahead a click on the Mustang and be done with it :) - It's only a few dollars and I wouldn't mind going on up to 35,000' and travel around the islands faster. I haven't (yet) because I just don't fly external, but I sure want to. . .It's also that "voting" thing - I don't want MSFT to get the impression that I want more external view planes. . .but my vote probably won't count anyway :). I like teeter-totters. . .For sure, the Mustang has a lot fewer uses than any of the other planes.

That's my reason for not buying it. Paying for the RC-model Mustang is an endorsement of planes with no cockpits and will only encourage them to do more of them.
