March 15, 201214 yr Author The key element IMHO not mentioned here is that FSX is not coded to properly leverage the GPU in any case. With my GTX 470 FSX uses at most 40%..But why then does the 480 vs 580 thread show definite improvements? The 580's 40% does a lot more than a 480's 40% it would seem.
March 15, 201214 yr The 580's 40% does a lot more than a 480's 40% it would seem.I guess this is the reason.Did you do some more testing? Do you have any complex addons like the NGX to do some testing in a busy environment like a high quality addon airport like JFK or LHR with AI Traffic and bad weather and share the FPS you're getting? I'm currently thinking about switching from my HD5850 to a GTX570 because everybody keeps saying I would see a huge improvement in performance, like 10+ FPS in FSX. So it's really interesting to see what results you're getting.
March 15, 201214 yr As far as performance the ATI 6970 lies between the GT570 and 580. It will sometimes out perform a 570 but never out perform a 580. ArDee

Know of any freeware of those airport I could get so I can test for you? Here is vanilla KLAX, no bloom, no dx10, no cockpit tools, no ground scenery shadows, 10m mesh, high 2.x water, everything else maxed out including all AI's, full screen, outside locked, zoomed out fullynvidia at 8fps, 10fps max; if I turn down the AI's to Ultra, frame rate goes up to 13fps, 16fps max
