Yaw Trim buttons

I was attempting to assign "FlightControls.CenterRollYawTrim" to the "5" key on the Numpad. Within Flight I temporarily assigned the key to an event so I could examine the Standard.xml to determine the "Key" name. I found the key to be "VK_Clear" (strange). During this I noted that I had to exit Flight to see the updated version of Standard.xml. I re-started Flight, returned the event to the original key assignment and soon discovered that all of my assignments had returned to the defaults.I may have hit "Default" at some point, thinking that only the specific assignment would be set to default but I don't recall doing this.I'm posting this in case someone has something similar happen. I had made multiple manual edits when incorporating the yaw trim events without a problem. This is simply advisory in nature and if anyone experiences anything similar please post.
I've noticed some odd names Flight reports for certain keys.If you create an invalid XML file due to wrong syntax or assigning invalid functions, the file may be reset to the "known good" stock settings Flight comes with.I was not able to get the roll trim keys to work properly when Kabronicus reported the function codes for them. I didn't put much time into as I was expecting my G940 set to arrive any day and figured I'd sort it out then. I still haven't gotten around to that.
Does that assignment center both Roll and Yaw trim then?
Yes, it does both. Pitch trim is not affected.

I am bookmarking this fascinating topic! There's some interesting stuff here, and I thank you.I'd be astonished that the Icon and Stearman don't have trim tabs, except that they don't have flaps, either. However, before I found that out I used the Trim Up and Trim Down buttons on the keyboard for the Icon, and they worked just fine. I have also used the Rudder: Move Left, and Rudder: Move Right keyboard keys, and they worked fine too. Of course I'm not using my Yoke. I'm using my mouse, which also works fine, and I find that flying MS Flight is a whole lot quicker and simpler than flying FSX (which is fun in a different way).Barney

Sorry Guys, I already posted the 7 trim commands on another thread, but should have posted them here too.

FlightControls.PitchTrimUpIncrement

FlightControls.PitchTrimDownIncrement

FlightControls.RollTrimLeftIncrement

FlightControls.RollTrimRightIncrement

FlightControls.YawTrimLeftIncrement

FlightControls.YawTrimRightIncrement

FlightControls.CenterRollYawTrim

The Roll trim doesn't work for me at all. Which A/C uses Roll trim? Everytime I exit the game and view the file, my RollTrim is deleted from the file.

The problem I was trying to address was an unwanted slight left turning tendency in the RV-6. I'm able to null this with the Yaw trim but how can I determine that it wouldn't be better to null it with the "RollTrim" adjustments mentioned in the post by Kabronicus. And finally, what is the source of these trim adjustments? I couldn't find any reference to them elsewhere. And really finally, thanks so much for all the good information posted!Jim F.

Hi,

I am a total noob to sim and found flight a more than acceptable entry level. Saying this I am not noob to navigation and winds, as a hoobist sailor in RL, so say the sail is just a vertical wing, but the same physics apply.

I had the same problem as you have in RV6, slightly turning to left but i realized it was due to another trim, the pitch one, as this is not simmetrical with the plane, just in the left hand side, which means that if you have it adjusted to produce a smooth nose up or down it is affecting to your heading as it will produce an aerodynamical brake. on the left side.

It can be too appreciated when taking off or taxiing (so running on wheels) if the plane has enough speed to make the air brake a factor.

Graphics on flight are accurate for some planes, and on some of them you can see the movement of those small parts of ailerons whilst in ground, whilst others are provided with the facility but it doesn't show up on graphics.

The tip about center those controls is fantastic, sadly it cannot be applied to pitch control (I tried CenterPitchTrim to not avail) but i will carry on looking around for it.

Just my final tip, instead to have to press several times the desired button to get the effect that you want you can add to your standard.xml file, after the Pitch/Roll/Yaw increment/decrement the following sentence:

<Repeat>32.000000</Repeat>

Then just get the button pressed and it will produce slight increasing on the control.

Many thx to all those that lurked before me on that file and provided me with the clues to understand how it works.
