  1. I'm using as much of MS Flight as you can get for free, and will no doubt download additional stuff after a while. Meanwhile, I'd like to poisition aircraft better, like at the end of a runway or at a terminal. At this point the only way I know how to do it is to move the airplane ion the map, and that is pretty inaccurate, or fly in and taxi-taxi-taxi. Is there a better way?Barney
  2. I am bookmarking this fascinating topic! There's some interesting stuff here, and I thank you.I'd be astonished that the Icon and Stearman don't have trim tabs, except that they don't have flaps, either. However, before I found that out I used the Trim Up and Trim Down buttons on the keyboard for the Icon, and they worked just fine. I have also used the Rudder: Move Left, and Rudder: Move Right keyboard keys, and they worked fine too. Of course I'm not using my Yoke. I'm using my mouse, which also works fine, and I find that flying MS Flight is a whole lot quicker and simpler than flying FSX (which is fun in a different way).Barney
  3. Hi Guys,I'm using the CH Flight Yoke LE, which connects via a USB port. The Spacebar (alone) puts the spot plane behind the one I'm flying. I'm not sure what you mean by a "real" hat switch, but mine is a circular, stubby conical, grey button atop the right handle of the yoke. I have it configured to pan through the views from the cockpit.I'm just getting back to FSX after a couple of years, and I've forgotten half of what I knew. I DL'd MS Flight and learned that a) you don't get much for free, and b) that placing the spot plane behind your aircraft makes VFR navigating and landing a whole lot easier. Learned a few other things, too, but that's a different forum. ;O)Thanks very much for your help!Barney
  4. Thank you!Word Not Allowed, hitting the spacebar did the job. Funny, I couldn't find the information in the Help files or online!Ray and Wizard, the hat switch on my yoke is configured to switch the views from the cockpit: left, back, right, and forward. I don't think it can be configured to move the spot plane.Barney
  5. I would like to change the position of the Spot Plane so that it is directly behind the aircraft I'm flying. I don't need to change the distance, just the relative position. Can anybody tell me how to do this? Thanks,Barney
  6. The post suggested by H2egc (http://forum.avsim.n...ck-sensitivity/) shows how to edit the appropriate file. I did, and by yoke works much better now, although I want to tweak it some more. Note that my yoke is shown as CH FLIGHT YOKE LE even though it connects through a USB port; yours may be different. Also note that your <MapVersion> number may differ from the example.Editing this file works beautifully, so many thanks to N4gix, who posted it.
  7. Thanks, h2egc! I'll try it.Wouldn't it be nice if MS would put in an adjustment! Maybe in the next release...?Barney
  8. The mouse is great in MS Flight, but I tried using a CH Products Yoke in MS Flight...and it's so sensitive that I can't control the aircraft! The yoke works fine in MS FSX. I know of no way to control yoke sensitivity in MS Flight, but if anybody has a way please let me know!
  9. First, let me thank both Turner and Scott for your prompt and informative replies. I appreciate your help, gentlemen!Turner, thanks for your concise definitions of the different products. That makes things a lot clearer to start with, and makes Scott's technical explanations easier to understand. If you do try the interactions, back up first, and best wishes for the enduring health of your computer!Scott, your technical explanation makes my head hurt, :( but that's nothing new. Below is what I understood you to say.I didn't know that MicroSoft had not created world-wide textures, but it doesn't surprise me, or bother me, since most of my flying and sightseeing are in North America. Beyond that:First, I think you're telling me that UTX will (or can) enhance GEX. But is that really the case, or are you saying that I'd be just as well off using UTX instead of GEX?Second, I think you're telling me that MegaScenery will sit on top of GEX and UTX, therefore effectively replacing them in the area the MegaScenery title covers. (By the way Turner, MegaScenery 2004 does not do seasons; MegaScenery X does.)Third, it sounds like FEX is for clouds and other atmospheric conditions. Frankly, I'm not that interested, so will go with the default.Since I already have a bunch of MegaScenery, I guess I should buy UTX and (possibly) GEX for the areas MegaScenery doesn't cover.Did I understand what you said?Barney
  10. I have a number of MegaScenery X titles (and some earlier MegaScenery titles too), and now I'm seeing products called "Ground Environment X" and "Ultimate Terrain X" packages. Today I got an email selling yet another, called "Flight Environment X."How do these three types of products relate to each other? Do they work together? Do they enhance each other? Are they competitors? Which is best?I'd appreciate your thoughts!BTW, I'm running FSX under the following configuration:
  11. Gentlemen, I appreciate your help!I added the line in the .cfg file, and was able to set the sensitivities and null zones to something that works for me. I know this will make FSX a far more enjoyable experience. Thanks,Barney
  12. Um... my FSX.CFG file has only the following in the [CONTROLS] section:[CONTROLS]Controls_Default=StandardControls_Current=StandardKBDAIL=64KBDELEV=64KBDRUD=64And a search on Stick_Sensitivity_Mode (with and without underscores) and on "Stick" and "Sensitivity yield no results.I don't understand!
  13. I thought I had said I wanted email notification of replies to my post, but I guess I didn't. I will now go away and try your suggestions, for which I am most grateful.Barney
  14. I haven't used FSX for over a year, but I got a new computer with Win 7 (config below) and installed it. I use a CH Flight Yoke LE, and I've always had problems with control sensitivity, but it seems as though the sensitivity settings don't work at all!As you can see from the attached, the controller is enabled, the correct controller is shown in the Controller Type field, the sensitivity settings are very low, and the null zone settings are high. Even so, it takes only the slightest movement of the yoke to send me veering wildly in one direction or the other. How can I make the Sensitivity and Null Zone controls work? Thanks,Barney
