How do you change the position of the spot plane?

Featured Replies

I would like to change the position of the Spot Plane so that it is directly behind the aircraft I'm flying. I don't need to change the distance, just the relative position. Can anybody tell me how to do this? Thanks,Barney

Usually by pressing space and moving the mouse.

Or the hat key.
Good morning Ray,"Or the hat key" That's a new one on me, could you tell me which key, please?Ken

Thank you!Word Not Allowed, hitting the spacebar did the job. Funny, I couldn't find the information in the Help files or online!Ray and Wizard, the hat switch on my yoke is configured to switch the views from the cockpit: left, back, right, and forward. I don't think it can be configured to move the spot plane.Barney

You can even change that button (space), as it is configured in FSX default assignments - I believe the assignment is called Mouse View Direction (on). You can go to assign any other button, press space, and FSX is gonna tell you IF this button is assigned, and where. You can abort it if you don't want to change. I do that often to see where assignments lie, or if some keys are free or assigned.Which yoke are you using? If it's a real hat switch, it can be configured for pan in the VC AND the spot view and at the same time switch views in the 2D panel as you described.

F11 to select SPOT, then use the hat switch to rotate around the aircraft in view. Or go above/below. Hold the Spacebar down and rotate the mouse wheel to zoom in & out when in the desired position.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Hi Guys,I'm using the CH Flight Yoke LE, which connects via a USB port. The Spacebar (alone) puts the spot plane behind the one I'm flying. I'm not sure what you mean by a "real" hat switch, but mine is a circular, stubby conical, grey button atop the right handle of the yoke. I have it configured to pan through the views from the cockpit.I'm just getting back to FSX after a couple of years, and I've forgotten half of what I knew. I DL'd MS Flight and learned that a) you don't get much for free, and b) that placing the spot plane behind your aircraft makes VFR navigating and landing a whole lot easier. Learned a few other things, too, but that's a different forum. ;O)Thanks very much for your help!Barney
