March 13, 201214 yr Do I need to be at FL180 when I reach Tulsawaypoint at 157 degrees? I am flying BYP5 approach. It is 161 miles to the BYP waypoint from Tulsa. It doesn't make since to fly at FL180 for 161 miles. Can anyone explain this. Here is the link for the STAR chart for KDFWhttp://flightaware.com/resources/airport/KDFW/STAR/BONHAM+FIVE Josh Scholl
March 13, 201214 yr Hi,No you don't need to cross TUL at FL180. FL180 is the MEA (actually not sure completely the correct terminology being UK based) but basically the minimum level you should be at, at that point on the STAR. The only crossing restriction I can see is to expect to cross LEMYN at 11,000ft (bottom left). Hope this helps.Phillip Phillip Speer
September 30, 201411 yr Its like any approach, thats a minimum crossing altitude, in busier environments your likely to get "cross Tulsa at FLxxx o". No specific altitude it means at or above.
