Aaargh! Flight crashed when almost done with photo mission

Featured Replies

Hi, first time posting after lurking for a couple of weeks.I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. So I'm flying along about halfway back to Hilo on the looong photo shoot mission when I began looking for an airport to refuel at. I was over an island south of Maui and noticed an airstrip so I thought that would be a good place to refuel. As I make my descent Flight locks up and crashes because I pushed the button on the joystick for trim. I was more than a little peeved because I like doing the missions without skipping for maximum XP and because I like it to feel more 'real' and I was almost done with this one after spending hours flying between the islands.I have noticed from flying before and about midway through this mission that when I used trim via my joystick it caused the game to stutter pretty bad. It doesn't happen all the time but I'm wondering why sometimes using trim apparently taxes my system. Maybe it's because I had to pause and minimize the game a couple of times?I've got more than enough computer for this game so it's not like I'm low on memory, graphics, or processor. Maybe just a bug, but it brings me to another thing I wish flight had. On such long missions like this it would be nice if we could pick up again at the checkpoints in case something like this happened. After restarting Flight I was hoping this was the case but when I was back on the tarmac of Hilo in the morning I was seriously annoyed.

Hi, and welcome to the AVSIM forums.I share your anger; it is frustrating when a game or app crashes for no logical reason. Can you find a Problem Report? Write "View all Problem Reports" (no quotations) in Start ->Text Area, then look for Flight Application, if you find one please copy and paste it here.Another area to look at is in Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer (look for a Flight error)This is the first I hear Trim Buttons can cause a Flight lockup or CTD. (You can try and reset your controls assignments, not fun but it might help)Don't rule out a Joystick problem, a stuck button or something like that could cause an "overflow". You can do a test and assign trim to other buttons.

Do you have the joysticks own personal software installed by chance?

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

I may have had a crash once when activating the trim. Never had any controls cause stuttering, though. The Hawaii Photo Book mission is pretty special. Don't skip on the way out because your passenger is still pointing things out, but on the way back there's nothing going on and skipping doesn't matter so much. You were intended to refuel at Dillingham during the break, but if you've got your engine as lean is it will go and still run well, you shouldn't have a fuel problem even if you don't refuel.Hook

Thanks for the help guys.I don't have a fancy joystick or anything--Logitech Extreme Pro 3D. I didn't have the software for it installed though, it was just running off a win7 driver I guess so I downloaded the Logitech software and will give it a try.I didn't find an error report for Flight, most likely because my computer didn't detect it crashing since I ctrl-alt-del it when it hung. For the mission, I did refuel at Dillingham and I fly the best I can with leaning, etc., but I just wanted to be sure I had enough and figured it wouldn't be a big deal to stop and refuel. I didn't want to skip any part of the mission, even on the way back to Hilo because you lose XP for skipping at any part right? It is a cool mission though, almost like a sight seeing tour for me instead of the photographer.

Don't.. I was asking because a lot of times the manufactures software is more troublesome and can cause more conflict in a lot of cases than it is worth.. You had it right.. Letting windows handle it.

Ha, well, it doesn't seem to have messed anything up that I've noticed.

I believe you only lose XP for skipping on jobs (from the job board at airports) and not on the actual missions. I've attempted the photo mission three times, only finishing it the last. The first time it bugged out and wouldn't recognize that I'd landed at Dillingham, and the second time Flight crashed. I skipped on the last attempt. I had points deducted for missing photo opportunities like the photo he takes of Honolulu over the mountains, but not for skipping.

You don't lose points for skipping in that mission. You just don't want to skip on the way out. Your passenger "sleeps" on the way back, waking up near Hilo. I flew over stuff hoping he'd comment, but he didn't.
It is a cool mission though, almost like a sight seeing tour for me instead of the photographer.
Yeah! Certainly worth the 2+ hours. Or 5 hours if you don't skip at all and fly slower.Hook
