March 16, 201214 yr After reading a lot about other people that achieved great results by "upgrading" from an ATI to an Nvidia GPU in FSX, I am considering to buy a new GPU now.Currently I have a Sapphire HD5850 in my rig that produces great performance in almost everything but FSX. The rest of my system is in my sig. When switching to Nvidia I narrowed it down to 2 options: GTX 560 GTX 570 As I understand it from Benchmarks and comparisons, the GTX 560 should be pretty much the exact same when it comes to specs as my current HD5850. The 570 should be a little better. Also there are a lot of options within either of the two cards to choose from.So my first question is: If I want to keep (ideally also improve) the performance in other games such as BF3 (also FS9) and get a huge increase in FPS in FSX, which card is the way to go? The 560 or the 570?Second question is: Which exact model should I choose? The GTX 560 comes in a standard, a Ti and a Ti 448 edition. They differ a little in their configuration and a little more in price. The 560 Ti from EVGA comes at around 205 Euros on amazon. The 570 also has various versions. The standard, the Superclocked and one with 2.5 GB of memory. That's also EVGA and the standard edition ranges around 280 Euros, the one with 2.5 GB memory at 305 Euros. Now, what would you advise me to get? Which card would give me the best performance for Games and FSX/FS9? Does the 100 Euros difference in price justify the increase in performance between the 560 and the 570 and would I benefit from the 2.5 GB memory version of the GTX570? Lastly, is EVGA a good choice?I have experience with ASUS and Sapphire GPU's so far. I know the new Kepler is just around the corner, but I honestly don't think that they would further increase the performance too much. Of course they will result in decrease in price for the "older" Nvidia's, so that is something I might wait for. Thanks for your help!
March 17, 201214 yr Wait for the GTX660. It will be out in about 3 weeks. It will give GTX580 performance at the price of a GTX570.
March 17, 201214 yr Before you upgrade why don't you try Bojotes Shader mod for the ATI cards. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
March 17, 201214 yr Author Thanks for your advise. I will keep an eye open for the 660 then. Before you upgrade why don't you try Bojotes Shader mod for the ATI cards.Tried that, and while it gives me a good increase in performance in a fresh FSX installation, it just creates problems and conflicts as soon as a I install addons. When I sit in the NGX at a detailed airport with traffic, frames go down to single digits - no matter if with or without the Shader mod. Not to mention all the other problems that come with installing this mod like artifacts, stutters, weird graphics in some situations and incompatibilities with addons, to name a few. It's a nice piece of work though, because it outlines the problems FSX has with ATI cards.

Thats a typical CPU bottleneck situation. Sounds like IvyBridge+GTX660 would be your upgrade path. There is a lot faster CPUs around now than [email protected].
