March 31, 200422 yr Author Ifri:Sorry, but my internet cable was out until a few mins ago and I did not see your questions.Outside of what I have previously said, I haven't a clue as to why so much zig zagging is implemented into FS. May be a hangover from old pre transponder days, I don't know. You are completely correct as far as I know that with a transponder, identification should already be made. Perhaps someone in ATC can shed some light on this subject. I can say that on VatSim, I don't think I have ever been asked to make any turns (for identification purposes). Traffic control is another subject. Speeding up, slowing down, doing a 360, entering a holding pattern and turns all become necessary if the air gets filled and somebody makes a boo boo. One suggestion for your amusement (and anybody else who is interested) and for me, it is very educational. Go to the following:http://www.vatsim.net/Click on "Real World Aviation" in the bottom area of the left listed links.I was going to say that the Hartsfield Atlanta Macey two arrival was broadcasting including a radar screen, but I don't see it at the moment. I sure hope it is still available because it is impressive. I may just not know where to bring it up quickly with the changes that have been made. This link is a work in progress and I do mean progress. (But I hope macey two has not been removed or soon returns)Hoewver; if you will click on "LIVE Boston ATC" you will now get "live ATC" from your choice of the Chicago, Kennedy, Boston, and Lafayette Indiana areas. If you want to know what ATC really tells you, listen and your mind will become somewhat boggled during busy hours. I miss or have overlooked the radar screen if it is available. Apparantly the sites provided will change periodically, or possibly be added to. It will also give you a new appreciation and respect for what these people do for aviation. It may not be brain surgery, but I am not sure but what it is more demanding. The VatSim ATC controllers also listen to these provisions and I am sure do their very best to make their communications as realistic as possible. (Sometimes too realistic for these old retarded ears, but you can revert to text with your keyboard when that happens).Forgive me for mentioning ProPilot and confusing you. That was an addon payware which was available in FS2000 and FS2002 for ATC. Unfortunately, I and nobody else to my knowledge has been able to get it to work in FS2004. It wasn't perfect either (Occasional ATC into a mountain or something), but I thought it was a superior program and very realistic. With the addition of Gameboy (another addon which does work in FS9) you had voice comm recognition and could use your mike.Best of luck.RTH Edit:I just relocated the macey two arrival at the Hartsfield Atlanta. (Senior moment before I guess)As before, go to http://www.vatsim.net/Click on "Real World Aviation"click on "Live Real World ATC Audio"Click on "Centers"Click on "ATC Monitor.com - Northeast Atlanta Macey Arrival"The Radar screen and everything is available.Check out what else is available on this site now. It is growing with the Real World monitoring provisions.
