March 21, 201214 yr Ok so many know I am currently homebound recovering from surgery. Recovery is quite painful and what I can do for myself is extremely limited - not fun.So here is my typical day these days - of course hopefully this will change here very soon...Get out of bed in the am, boot up the pc, whilst it is booting, grab the first pain killer of the day and down it. Pour my first cup of yumee coffe.Once PC is at desktop, launch IE9, go to MS Flight forum on Avsim.Start reading and catching up on all the posts during the middle of the night.Once done, go back to read and catch up on all the posts posted, whilst I was catching up on posts posted during the night. Man, where did all these come from.Once done, and by this time I have half the coffee pot consumed - I go back through and post any new threads I have a desire to post. Consume another pain killer. When done, go back and read all the posts that were posted whiles doing the previous.Dangit, when are these guys going to take a break from posting?Ahh there you go, no more bold highlited threads, all is taken care of.Pour that 6th cup of coffee.Yikes, two more threads in bold, ok I will just quickly read the new content - ok once again, all caught up.FINALLY , and it may well be closer to lunchtime- double click the Flight icon - no prep, no planning, no shutting down of programs.Off I go, choose a job or a challenge.Fly FLIGHT anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour , occasionally even an hour and a half.Exit Flight, there is my Avsim Flight forum staring at me. Hit the refresh button. OMG, where did all these new posts/replies come from.Rinse and repeat...I have to wonder, if Flight had not been released when it was and this was still a closed forum, what in the world would I have been doing these last several days whilst being in recovery mode!I guess flying in FSX perhaps, FSX , wow, love that sim - and stil have not launched it again since March 4th, having downloaded/installed Flight on March 5th.I will be recovered and back in the real world soon - and will be nowhere near as active here or in simming, as I have been the last several days. It will return back to limited weekend entertainment along with all the other responsibilities here around the house I have to attend to... Don B
March 21, 201214 yr Aren't you glad that Flight came along when it did. Imagine the hours of just laying around - thinking about the pain you must be suffering. I am glad that you are able to be up and doing the things you enjoy. Your postings have been clear - even with the pain killers you are taking. It pains me to see those who berate this project. It has tweaked this old timer's interest in a "hobby" that has consumed many hours over the years and has grown to be so realistic. I have flown many hours in the right seat (left in helicopters) but never was licensed, due mostly to the cost. In police work (retired now), those opportunities opened up for me to be a spotter or whatever and it was always fascinating - the flight more than the work.I hope that you continue to improve and are able to devote more and more time as more and more content opens up. March 21, 201214 yr Author Thank you Mr. Old!I really appreciate that - especially letting me know my posts are clear, I have been somewhat concerned about that as I am on some seriously strong pain killers.Glad to see what Flight has done for you as well, another prime example of it accomplishing in part, what they set out for it to do...My hat is off to you for your chosen line of career, I have the utmost respect for those that are currently, and have served, in law enforcement. Those guys/gals can hold their heads up very high indeed, and it is great you got at least the opportunity to actually be in a helicopter through your line of work.I hope you are enjoying your well deserved retirement! And again, thank you very much! Don B
March 21, 201214 yr are currently, and have served, in law enforcementwait! you mean he could be the guy busting me during me clandestine missions? :Thinking:seriously, nice - if I may say so under your circumstances - description of your daily activities. look pretty similiar to mine here except that I cover most of the part during work if time allows. these days luckily a tad more than usual. my wife already gets nervous when I check first thing in the morning the forum on my cell phone :LMAO: . as old said above, glad you have some distraction these days. I am ruining my night time since flight was released, usually stay up lat in the morning with just 4-5 hrs sleep before kids wake us up. but that night time between 10pm and 1am is the only time I can sit and fly without distraction: wife and kids are in bed... March 21, 201214 yr Author Thanks Phil!Wow, while at this time I am not getting a lot of sleep due to circumstance, when things are normal I could never stay up that late and go to work the next day. In my younger years, yeah - not now though...Checking Avsim on cell phone - hmmm - might out to check into that for when I am back on the road. Now if I could just read those dang smart phone screens! Don B
