Naming of gates when you choose the airport

Featured Replies

I've always been wondering why are there constantly wrong named gates at many many sceneries out there. No matter the developer, no matter the place.Example:Gate 23 - RAMP GA MEDIUMorParking 23... (for a gate)Now, if I understand this correctly, ramp is not a gate, and GA is General Aviation. Now, it positions you on the ramp in this particular scenario. It's always a trial and error to find a gate to be placed.Has completely eluded me, if I'm doing something wrong or are the developers not paying any attention to that?

From what I understand some developers use the "GA" tag to prevent the default FSX tug and ground equipment from popping up. An example where this was used was in FSDT's KJFK. A lot of people questioned Umberto on why they did the ADE like what your describing and that was the reason. Perhaps other devs are now using the same method to prevent FSX vehicles from spawning where the developer has placed their own static vehicles.

I don't get this. If this is an issue wouldn't they just have you turn off airport vehicle traffic? All that is largely replaced these days by ground-service enhancement programs anyways

They probably thought of the fact that you maybe flying to or from airports that did not support ground-service enhancement (pre GSX era) or you don't own any and you would still want to use airport vehicle traffic at other airports than the ones they created.

True, but probably the majority of the users never read the user manuals that come with airports and/or other FS addons.Plus, for those who use the default tugs it keeps them from having to access the FSX setting menu after leaving one airport where they might have had them turned on and having to turn them off before arriving at another airport. And, there are still probably a lot of users who dont use AES or GSX.

The reason there named that is too make the radius of the parking larger/available to all types.
