February 28, 201313 yr Commercial Member I would second what Kattz has said. I can't think of anything in the AMD software that would cause the result you've mentioned. The highest Anistropic Filtering (AF) level will make things like the menus a little fuzzy, but not to the extent of what you've described. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.

I am running FSX on MEDIUM settings, stock, fps set to 25, and its still incredibly choppy (at airports in the middle of nowhere). In fact, the music on the start menu pauses sporatically. When I am outside the aircraft looking around it's "chop, chop, chop". I just bought this computer and it's quite frustrating when my alienware from 2002 did a better job. Could you look at my PC and give me some ideas if you have a chance? thanks again
February 28, 201313 yr Commercial Member Nothing stands out to me from looking at your PC configuration, you should be getting a whole lot better performance than what you describe. The only possible hardware related thing I can think of that your monitor is probably running at a pretty high resolution, which would put a bit of an extra strain on performance. You haven't mentioned at all whether you've taken any steps to tweak your configuration (fsx.cfg) file. If you have, I'd delete the file and start over. If you haven't, then this link http://forum.avsim.net/fsx_guide.pdf can explain all the possibilities better than I can. The fact that even the music on the start menu is choppy might also be an indication that you have a more serious issue, perhaps your installation is faulty? You shouldn't at all see any problems in the launcher such as that. Again, for more detailed steps in fixing your issues, I would highly recommend reading the document at the link I provided. A lot of smart minds spent time writing it! Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
February 28, 201313 yr You probably are having a software conflict or hardware condflict if this is true. Then again, it IS Win 8. I'd look for solutions on the forums re Win 8. Sound sutter indicates a driver issue or conflict with FSX.

However, now I'm back to jagged edges and blurries so back to square one I guess. Also, it seems the new Catalys Control Center lacks many of your described settings. If there is a way to find them please let me know. thanks
February 28, 201313 yr The blurries will not subside and I'm only getting 10 FPS at jfk on medium-high settings. I think the windows 8 CCC will not allow me to set up the 7870 properly.
February 28, 201313 yr Catalyst's driver core doesn't really care whether it's Win 7 or Win 8, only the interface. Check it again, because I had a hard time finding mine at first as well. Also, make sure that when you go into Gaming Settings/3D Settings/ you create a new profile and point it to fsx.exe. Then tweak that profile. All else fails, post up a screen shot of your Catalyst interface window and maybe we can get this worked out.
