So it's happening lol (SSD post)

Recommended Posts

And I'm not surprised.... but my 120GB SSD is running out of space... I've still got over 40GB to go, but with Orbx releasing all this scenery and cheap....well you know how that goes...

So I'm already brainstorming for the future...

I could easily convert my 120GB into an OS only drive, and buy a larger SSD (sata III or pcie???) for FSX.

How do the newer sata III's compare with a pcie-based drive like the revo drive? I'm talking value/performance/drive integrity/fsx performance.... My current mushkin callisto is gen 2...

For example...the standard gen 3 ssd for $330 (down from 400 wow)

Or a revo drive gen 3 ($650 down from 700):

Currently most PCIe SSDs are almost 3 times the price of non-PCI E. I would wait for the future when the price comes down significantly...And right now focus on what really makes a difference in FSX-- Ivy, memory, GPU, motherboard. (And go with SATA SSDs...As far as I understand, even the "slowest" SSD today is almost 15 times--or more-- faster than regular HD.

Forget about the revo. Get a Vertex 3 or the Intel 520 when they are on sale.

I thought you got a revo?

I had one and had to get rid of it becuase I needed the pci slot for my additional gtx 480. Now i'm just using one card.

The revo is a great card, but it's not worth the additional expense.

Ooooh. I am interested... and not too costly either... considering I put about $250 on my 120GB sata II ssd last year.

New youts guys were going to have issue with them 120gb SSD drives. It gets real expensive fast going to the next size. I'm still waiting for the 330g to be the price of a 120g. My FSX file is 200g now and I wouldnt anticipate it shrinking!

I'm pushing 200gig as well. Put in a 120 ssd for the o/s and a few other things last year. Happy with it. Would like an ssd in the 3-400gig range but the cost is still on the high side. 200gig of fsx takes a while to start up and for me that's one of the attractions of the ssd.

What addons do you have - you 200+ GB people? Is there a lot of photoscenery?

Maybe that's why I'm not filling up.... I don't have GEX installed for anywhere except USA, and UTX USA, and just recently got FSG mesh for USA - about 9 GB's worth of that. Other than that, about 15 payware airports, and 15 payware native planes + FEX clouds.
