Does the prop strobe effect mess with your cockpit shadows?

Featured Replies

Hi,

When flying at dawn or dusk I've noticed flickering cockpit shadows. It seems related to the prop strobing effect. Has anyone else noticed this?

Once I realized that the prop strobe effect is not something that would normally be noticed in a real aircraft but something caused by the sampling rate of a recording, I've found it mildly offensive. In FSX I was able to eliminate it by replacing the prop texture alpha channel with one that was near black. To me this seemed more realistic; a slight blur.

I noticed this cockpit interference prior to replacing my graphic card but it's present on the new one as well. I just noticed the relationship.

Yes, and I find it quite annoying as well. :)

I LOVE the shadows but NOT the flickering... Don't know if it's related to prop strobe or whatever, but it's a shame those shadows move all the freakin' time... I really hope MS will find a way to fix this: that would make Flight almost perfect (graphic wise).

I have noticed this too, only today. Thing is I never noticed it before and I've been playing Flight since it came out.

I suspect the flickering doesn't come from the prop, but from the way they're softening the edges of shadows. Proably part of the DirectX 9 legacy. I really don't mind it, and prefer it to hard edged shadows, but I agree it could be better.

What annoys me is the occasional white flash in the shaded part of the cockpit when the sun or moon is above and behind you. I can put up with that too, for now.
