Clouds In The Way
Hi Brian, I try to stay on track as it seems many threads aren't exactly hijacked but seem to go off on tangents. As I know very little about helicopters or how closely they're emulated in FSX I'm afraid I can't be of much help with that. I did check a bit and noticed that there seems to be some governor affecting the rpm. By changing what is normally my prop pitch I could get the rpm in the middle of the green. The manifold pressure was far from stable and jumped around what seemed to be an excessive amount. I don't have my fps displayed but this aircraft seems to take a real hit on a smooth display. I strongly suspect that there is a correlation between the visual performance hit and the gauge operation. I switched to the default Robinson and made no other system changes and everything was very smooth. I did refer to the Flying Club X Members Handbook which contains a tutorial for the 300 that seems to address some control issues. A magnifying glass will be helpful but it seems to reference some issues with the performance impact and the rpm control. Jim

Clouds In The Way
Hi Brian, It occurred to me that the 300CBi is included in the Just Flight Flying Club Collection which I have. I recently re-installed FSX but not the Collection. I installed it and checked for problems with the 300CBi but all looks well. Upon beginning the install I saw a reference to "Macrovision" which most likely indicates some type of copy protection but I could try to zip up the aircraft and send it to you. I'm not 100% sure that just viewing the heli in spot view and seeing problems with the clouds was the problem you were having so if not let me know and I'll try to duplicate what you were seeing. Jim F.

Clouds In The Way
Hi, Just out of curiosity I looked at the Just Flight website and came across this on the Flying Club Schweizer 300CBi page: Note: All the aircraft in the Flying Club range have now been fully updated to the latest Flight Simulator X SP2 and DX10 preview specifications. Existing ownsers can get details of how to update their aircraft from the Support section on this website. It seems likely that this will correct the problem.

Clouds In The Way
Hi Brian, It's my understanding that the priority of entries in the scenery library is only used to determine which scenery takes precedence in any particular area. What the Propellers section is doing in there, with its references to Cessna 182s and Sopwiths, seems odd. The only thing that makes any sense to me is if there was an aircraft used as a scenery object you wouldn't want its prop to be displayed incorrectly with regard to the other scenery objects. I don't think it's very difficult for the developer to make the changes. Jim F.

FSX Vanilla install won't write cfg
Hi franko I suspect something left over from your previous install. I'm not familiar with Revo Pro so I'll just tell you what I do. I use the IObit Uninstaller. I have the freeware version of Advanced SystemCare and the Uninstaller is included with it. During all phases of uninstall, whether through Control Panel or using IObit it checks for leftover files and asks if you'd like to delete them. I'm always surprised at the amount of stuff that is generally found. Here's the cheatsheet I use: Uninstall Programs and Features - All FSX related until clean Delete - C:\FS\Microsoft Flight Simulator X - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Users\username\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files General Cleaning Check - C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Pictures\Flight Simulator X Files - C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Users\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX - C:\Users\username\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files - C:\FS\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ Jim F.

Restoring default key commands
Hi Chris, I completely forgot about that. Hope I didn't make any unnecessary work for anyone. I used it one time in trying to reset just my joystick commands and discovered that all commands were reset. Jim F.

Clouds In The Way
Hi Brian, Your latest clarification seems in exact accordance with my understanding of your initial post. It sounds like a scenery priority problem. If the helo is an addon I suggest seeing if the problem is present with one of the default helicopters. Unfortunately, if the problem is with the default there's no easy fix. If the problem is unique to the addon I suggest contacting the developer. Some legal crap here; it seems that fixing the problem would require some reverse engineering and unless you did it yourself the info on how to correct it couldn't be shared. I am assuming you only have the default weather. I'm confused by the third sentence in your initial post. My guess is that it was a rhetorical question to which you neglected to add the question mark. Jim F.

Restoring default key commands
Hi, I'm not sure but it may be possible to delete the active Standard.xml down there in the Appdata section and letting FSX rebuild it. There is a template Standard.xml in the main FSX folder which is likely used to restore the controls to the default. I do not know if this template was updated to reflect the default Acceleration controls but it seems likely. Jim F.

Clouds In The Way
Hi Vic, I wasn't sure I understood his post but when he referred to his view from the spot plane I was assuming he meant spot view. I don't ever recall seeing clouds ever obscuring an aircraft in spot view. I tried to make it as clear as possible that this was just a consideration and provide help in identifying where the fault lay if this was the case. Jim F..

Clouds In The Way
Hi BDL, I'm not certain that I understand your post but if a cloud that should appear behind the helo in the simulation appears in front of it that would indicate a priority problem. If the problem is with all of the default aircraft that would indicate a scenery problem; if only certain aircraft, a problem with the aircraft. Jim F.

Reinstalling FS9 after replacing HDD
Hi again, I just Googled FS9 NoCD and the patch is readily available. Before installing it I found that the problem is related to a recent Windows update. There was some further info regarding the problem but I didn't bother looking into it further once I realized I wasn't alone in having the problem. Jim

Reinstalling FS9 after replacing HDD
Hi Bud, If I understand you correctly it seems that everything should be okay. I am assuming that the OS will be on yet another new drive, replacing the failed one. I recently installed FS9 and have Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I had to use the NoCD option to even get FS9 to start. Everything seems to be working properly now. Jim F

Recommended set-up for FS9
Hi Richard, I don't have anything definitive but I had a thought when I read this: "This has been running well for a long time with my FS9 but for some unknown reason now my scenery has lost all realistic detail appears a little to bright and most upsetting is the ad-on scenery just looks so unrealistic like a cartoon with buildings looking more like blocks totally different for what are quite expensive mega airports from aerosoft/Flytampa etc I had my system initialized and was told my drivers and graphic card were okay, but i'm really confused what I need to amend to restore the scenery textures to their initial downloaded state." Perhaps the monitor settings were somehow changed. I haven't thoroughly read the posts but didn't see this mentioned. Jim F.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Haven't been able to identify the problem but here's more info. Errors just a few seconds after selecting. Same problem by starting thru GFW Marketplace or double clicking Flight.exe. Here's what I see: Found this after investigating: Checked to see if MSVCR100.dll was present and it was. Don't know what to check further.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Once again, Tried Unmodified mode and it worked fine. Not sure what the significance of this mode is but it appears to be the same as GFWL but no GFWL login; so no multiplayer. It seems that it has the same control settings as GFWL mode. It appears that the problem with GFWL mode is related to logging in.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Hi, On a clean install of Flight and Toolkit 1.1.28, downloaded all Non-GFWL files and created World scenery from a new install of Gold (disc). Flew a bit in an area of California in which I'd had problems and all seems well. Looking forward to checking out the current install and then any additional enhancements. I haven't examined anything other than the Addon manager but I'm looking forward to doing so. Thanks Stonelance! Jim F. Hi again, I guess I posted too soon. Tried GFWL mode and Flight crashed. This was the problem that I had prior to re-installing Flight but after installing Toolkit 1.1.28. Anyone else experiencing this?

Unable to download addons in NonGFWL mode with Addon Manager
Works fine now. Thanks for taking care of it.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Hi Sinju, As the Alaska files are no longer available elsewhere, it's my understanding that they can be downloaded via the Toolkit. There is currently a problem downloading the files there were not originally sold but I think the links to the original files are working. In addition to the Alaska Wilderness Pack other files are needed to make it work. Just download what's possible and all should work. Jim F.

Unable to download addons in NonGFWL mode with Addon Manager
Hi, Clicking on the "Mixed Fair Weather Theme" (as an example) gives me this: Here's the URL:http://www.flighttoolkit.com/addons/Xbox360LiveryPack.flightAddon Is it just me? Hi again, The link I posted was for the "Xbox 360 Themed Livery Pack" but the resulting error is the same. My mistake. Jim F.

Unable to download addons in NonGFWL mode with Addon Manager
After a new clean install of Flight and Toolkit can't download nonGFWL addons. Seems likely that it's related to the recent problem with downloading the Toolkit.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Hi, Yes. When I saw the options I downloaded the x64. I have a 64bit install and had no idea what the files consisted of. The choice seemed logical. I didn't catch your reference to "x86". I just recalled clicking the link and installing the file. When Stonelance again specified the x86 that cleared things up. From now on if I see multiple files I'll download all unless something indicates otherwise. Not knowing what the redistributables were had me at a disadvantage. Did that DependencyWalker point to the problem? I can't seem to understand anything past "error". When you posted "Wasn't that the one link that stonlance provided in the first post?" I checked and it was. I didn't understand that your question was rhetorical. I hope things are clear now.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
Hi, I looked into "VC++ redistributables" (Googled) and in case anyone else is interested I found this at https://askleo.com/. "When companies write software using Microsoft Visual C++, they make use of a number of what are called "standard libraries". Those are collections of pre-written software provided by Visual C++ for programmers to use. That way, they don’t have to write what are often very common sequences of code. Instead, they can use these libraries of software that are pre-written and very thoroughly tested by either years of use or Microsoft’s own testing efforts. So, if you have five programs that use the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable, there only needs to be one copy of it on your computer." Pretty clear and to the point. I wasn't familiar with the site but it seems to be a good place to seek basic info. The World Addon completed successfully and it seemed quicker than last time. Unfortunately Flight still crashes anywhere within approx. 100 miles of KMRY. I really didn't expect otherwise. I'll have to investigate what I left in prior to re-installing Flight and Gold last time and try again.

Flight Toolkit 1.1.28
That was it. Help displayed fine and and I'm creating a new Addon now. I'm lacking some fundamental knowledge about what these VC++ redistributables are. I'll have to look into it. Thanks again!
