I know what you mean! JLedford posted some old FS shots here the other day....8-sided engine nacelles, flat black circle (or octagon) for an intake.... hideous scenery...but was state of the art back then.

I think the FeelReal Flight 747-400 textures for the Project Opensky 747 were a milestone in flight simulator history. Incredible art work that blew me away back in the days of FS2000. I remember thinking at the time, how could they ever be surpassed. Boy was I wrong. But at one point these were incredible and pretty much set the benchmark for texturing. The Quantas F1 livery was my favourite.
