April 16, 200422 yr (shameless plug follows)Mae Hong Son, Thailand - VTCHThis small airport has a mountain at one end of it, and the approach brings you close to several mountains also. As a bonus, there is freeware scenery available in the library.Do a search for either the Thai mesh or S.E. Asia mesh to make it even more scenic.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
April 17, 200422 yr Hi,Here's one which you might find quite "hairy" to land on... MOUNT HAGEN in Papua/New Guinea. The scenery is not bad with mountains all around what amounts to a "ditch" in the mountains. Try to see if you can land there with a 737 :))) - the runway if memory serves is only 6195 feet and your approach from either side of the only runway at the airport is over mountains so the descent is ... let's just say..."fun"! April 18, 200422 yr DC-3 can be done and gives a nice challenge though :-jumpyConcrete WA is also nice, or try Strom WA.Another good idea is Juneau Alaska. Outside the US, Maiquettia (SVMI) Venezuela is nice, or Bogota (Colombia), Quito, Santiago de Chile (SCEL), La Paz.In Europe, Alicante, Innsbruck, Milan Linate, Vagar, Amsterdam Schiphol. In Asia, Kathmandu, Chitral, Lukla.
April 18, 200422 yr Princess Julianna in St Maarten has very good freeware scenery available, both mesh and airport/island. When the wind is wrong, can be very interesting to get in and out and I understand that the Big Birds do go there.Ed GreenKCLThttp://www.panelshop.com/DEV.jpg
April 18, 200422 yr Look no further than 'Docherty's Difficult and Dangerous Approaches' downloads available at Avsimonline' or 'Flightsim.com'There is 22, to date and I have them all.Dave.--------------------------------------------------------If it burns Kerosene and makes a noise, I'm interested. April 19, 200422 yr Adam,Freeware scenery for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) has been done for FS2002 and works in FS2004 as well. Created by Shehryar Ansari, the AVSIM filename is dca2002.zip. Try the LDA/DME for Rwy 19, a.k.a. "The River Approach," making sure to avoid P-56 (restricted airspace above downtown Washington, D.C.) on your left and the buildings of Rosslyn on the right and ending with a bank to the right onto a runway that empties smartly into the Potomac River. Lots of MD-80's, 737's, and 757's in and out of this airport in real life. Fun in a strong crosswind, but then again most airports are...:)Happy flying,Kevin
April 25, 200422 yr >Lebanon - Beiruth Rwy 35Beirut's runway 35 is a take-off runway only. Landings are strictly forbidden because of the mountains.Landings are only one on 17, 18 (rarely used nowadays), 03, and SOMETIMES 21.Regards
April 25, 200422 yr try the expressway visual,or the river visual into la guardia/KLGAgreat fun...i keep coming back to them ;-)
April 26, 200422 yr FS2004 default doesn't do a half-bad job with Washington, so I second flying the LDA 19 or River Visual 19 into KDCA. The LGA approaches mentioned above are also good ones. Be sure to wave up to the people in the Gannett building in Rosslyn as you go by. :) (You can try the runway 1 departure if you want a takeoff challenge, you have to make a hard left turn to 328 degrees immediately after takeoff to avoid flying over the National Mall and White House and busting restricted airspace.)Juneau is really pretty, especially at sunset.Never tried Innsbruck, but Zurich at night was gorgeous. And whoever suggested Ranger Creek is dead on the money. Even without add-on mesh it's really neat to shoot the approach down the valley and squeeze in there, with some 38m mesh it must be jaw-dropping.Lewis "Moose" GregoryColumbia, South CarolinaDVA 1427/Solent 644 Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
April 28, 200422 yr LGA Expressway Visual....huge turn to Rwy 32 from DIALS intersection, dirty and slow, over the Worlds Fair grounds and Shea Stadium...over Flushing Bay. Like landing on an aircraft carrier...has to be hand flown...no George allowed.
