Eaglesoft Hanger WOW!

Featured Replies

If you have overlooked it, or not placed the Eaglesoft Hanger Kit anywhere yet, I highly recommend that you take a peek at it. I have placed my own virtual xxxxxx Aviation facilities at my home airport, KLWB along with many other favorite locations, mostly SimFlyer Airports. The only small observation which might deserve attention that I have noticed is as follows which I placed on the Eaglesoft forum."The only thing I see that could stand a correction, but I sure can live with is that out of the slew mode, the Citation wheel chocks, red carpet and anything else at ground level disappear due to the hanger floor elevation. The aircraft wheels sink slightly into the floor as well. Apparantly, the hanger floor is an inch or two above the aprons. and the aircraft remains at runway/apron elevations which are slightly lower. Moved out of the hanger, everything shows correctly again. Note that in slew mode, everything sits and shows correctly."I barely noticed this. If not for the red carpet missing I doubt that I ever would have. If you leave your bird in the slew mode, and move it out of the hanger, this issue is academic anyway. Now to see what else will fit into that hanger. Already discovered that my Gulfstream is too tight a fit. Haven't tried to see if the hanger size can be adjusted yet. Note that this is freeware, and you don't have to have the Eaglesoft Citation to implement it although I am sure they would appreciate it if you would. It is one great bird IMHO!I highly suspect that this is a sign of things to come from this great source with expanded provisions. Can't wait to see what's next.Happy flying:RTH

I've been trying since Saturday to download it but still have had no luck. Will keep trying though.Colin

I owe the hanger an apology.I don't believe that it is the hanger that is at a very slight incorrect elevation as I originally thought, but possibly the ground (Apron) level on which it is located. I am discovering that the red carpet, chocks and pylons show up at some locations inside the hanger, and not at others when the door is opened. No biggy. Now anxiously awaiting delivery of a Dell Notebood (Not my primary computer) which includes Paint pro so that I can improve my "Hodges Aviation" signs on all my hangers. As advised, MSPaint leaves something to be desired. (Ready to fire my sign painter).Happy flying:RTH

Another week, still can't download. Is it really that busy or is it just not available anymore?Colin

Hi, I may be missing all kinds of stuff but I just bought my copy of the Cessna Citation x and installed the so called hanger but fail to see where you can install at any airport ...is this what this is about, a link would really help.Thanks.TONY

Hey Tony, depends on which FBO scenery you got. The original one I did is not formatted like the one Bill did since we used different methods to design it and is only available at select locations. The one Bill did that can be placed at different spots is the "esdghangerkit.zip". Hope that helps.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmtnhelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters

As I explained in the "Pilot's Lounge" forum at Eaglesoft, the hanger "floor" is actually .5" thick. This is necessary to prevent the underlying ground textures from bleeding through and destroying the illusion that there's actually concrete there... :)I could have left the floor out entirely, but then there'd be no cool light effects on the floor at night...As in all things FS related, one must choose between various compromises, and choose the combination that works for the best effect. For taking screenshots, simply go into slew mode to 'unbury' the tires; otherwise, simply pretend that the tires have low air pressure! :)I had originally intended this little scenery kit for ES's customers only, but decided to release it to the general public as a free gift. I am working on a larger hanger that will accomodate 747's and 777's, but that will take a bit longer to get ready as I'm rather busy with other projects at the moment... :)

ohh a bigger one :)I already have this one located off the side at KLCK with my 310 in it, but my 737 is parked outside... now to make a complex of them all with my fave aircraft.... now thats something to look forward to!!Thank you for the work Bill, little add-ons like that make a world of difference to sad geeks like me :)Jonathan O'Connor

Thanks Bill for the reply, as well as your explainination. Not being a developer and being pretty much ignorant of what is involved in that talent, it is easy to overlook the obvious. In my ignorance I am very curious as to the other capabilities of your offering (In the present and the future)I wondered if anybody else has been as ignorant and curious as I am relative to the full capability of this tool, and what is to come:Questions that immediately come to mind:1. Is the "MakeMDL" tool something that has been available for some time and that I just overlooked that can be implemented by anybody? (not necessarlly gifted as a developer) 2. Under Model types, is it possible to create and locate other scenery and static aircraft in a similar way to your hanger? ("Aircraft" and "Scenery" options under "Model Type")3. How is the "Output file", "Browse" provision implemented?4. "LOD"?5. "Output"?5. For what are the purposes of all of the unused option choices (Checkmarks) and how are they implemented?6. Is there documentation (Manual) specific to the MakeMDL tool and where might it be requested or downloaded?Sure looking forward to that big hanger? Thanks loads:RTH

>1. Is the "MakeMDL" tool something that has been available for>some time and that I just overlooked that can be implemented>by anybody? (not necessarlly gifted as a developer) If you own FS2k2 or FS9, then you have had "MakeMDL.exe" buried in the GMax tools folder all along. Since most simmers aren't interested in modeling, it is likely that they'll never even notice these tools, much less use them. :)>2. Under Model types, is it possible to create and locate>other scenery and static aircraft in a similar way to your>hanger? ("Aircraft" and "Scenery" options under "Model Type")MakeMDL is completely worthless unless you have the intermediate source file(s) (the .x file(s)) that are produced when a model is exported from GMax (or any other design program that can output an .x file).>6. Is there documentation (Manual) specific to the MakeMDL>tool and where might it be requested or downloaded? The complete SDK is available from Microsoft's support website:http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...sdk.asp#makemdlI am using the 2nd version of MakeMDL.exe that was released for FS2002, since the newest version for FS9 uses a completely new and different way of compiling scenery, and does not support the form of 'animation triggers' that were used in the hanger kit.The newest MakeMDL.exe implements an XML coding scheme for attached animation and effects, but had I used it for the hanger kit, FS2000 and FS2002 users would not be able to utilize the scenery at all! I wanted to (a) keep it simple to use and (:( keep it 'backwards compatible.'
