April 13, 201214 yr Hi Everyone Can someone advise me please, out of the ASUS X79 Pro and the Gigabyte X79 UD7 which of the two would make the better choice for a new build. I'm trying to look into the future here as what will support the new Ivy Bridge cpu. Or maybe there is some other board someone could recommend. Kind Regards Shaun
April 13, 201214 yr UD7 is a much higher end board isn't it? But as for supporting Ivy Bridge, neither. These are X79/2011 boards, you should be looking at Z77/1155 boards like the P8Z77-Pro and the GA-Z77X-UD5. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. April 13, 201214 yr Author Hi I thought the new ivy bridge is going to be a 2011 chip that these boards would support with a bios upgrade. Regards Shaun.
April 13, 201214 yr Ivy Bridge runs on the LGA1155 socket. You are going to need a Z77 mothboard for an Ivy Bridge CPU. As for an Ivy-BridgeE, they won't be around for a while...
April 13, 201214 yr You'll need a Z77 motherboard for an Ivy Bridge CPU. Brand: shouldn't matter that much. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, today they are all good. However, I recommend getting a mid to high-end board, cuz this is better for e.g. overclocking. My recommendations: Asus P8Z77-V Pro, Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe, Asus Maximus V Extreme MSI Z77A-GD65 ASRock Z77 Extreme 6 Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H. Arjen Vandervelde

I'm not sure where you get your info from, but you don't need a high end motherboard to get all the overclocking features. Cheap single PCIe slot boards overclock all the same. It's a matter of what features you need. A And you don't need a Z77 board for Ivy Bridge, IB is backwards compatible with Z68 and P67, although I've heard current BIOS of P67 boards can't overclock Ivy Bridge chips, that should be fixed with future BIOS releases I guess Hi All Thanks for your advice. Cheers Shaun. Shaun, don't bother with Ivy Bridge. Why would you want an IB with the chip you have? Makes no sense at all

I have just been reading all the hype about IB and i thought that might have been the answers to my prayers. I am not all that confident about OC and even with my set up when flying in and about Orbx scenery i am still down in the low teens for FPS. I built the system myself and i think i need to try and understand more about getting the most out of what i have. Cheers Shaun

Cheers Shaun You'll need to overclock if you want to get the most out of your CPU in FSX. It's not that hard to do. Google it and join an overclock forum. You'll get all the expert help you need at overclockers.com, overclock.net, etc... IB doesn't perform better (maybe a 5% clock for clock), doesn't overclock better and you have PCIe 3.0 too, in case it eventually proves to be beneficial, so the move makes no sense at all. Overclock, run the venetubo tweaker tool and you should be in the mid 20's Then try the bufferpools=0 tweak and if your system is stable with it, you'll be in the 30's

Cheers Shaun If you can send an IB to 4.7-4.9GHZ paired with a GTX680, then you will be able to get some really nice performance. But just as Dario said, you are going to need to use the BP=0 tweak,
