April 16, 200422 yr The download is called "easier" engine starting. This makes it seem like it makes the engine starting less realistic. If so, this must mean I (and many others) are doing something wrong when trying to start the engine. In that case, what would the problem be? Or is the dificult engine actually a bug in the aircraft? -
April 16, 200422 yr HI Jimmi,FS9 has a curious anomoly:- we don't like to make our engines burst in to life immediately, and this was a criticism of our FS2002 version of the SF260. So we set it to be a little bit more reluctant in FS2004. We discovered that on some systems this translated to not enough starter torque in some views but enough in others. So we issued an optional patch to make engine starting reliable in spot view, VC and 2d.For some reason beyond our knowledge the Scout seems to start every time no matter which view you choose. It's just one of those things.Kind Regards,Rob Young - RealAir Simulations Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
April 16, 200422 yr Humm, interesting. I've never had a problem re-starting the SF.260. What is the problem exactly? Does it crank and just not fire, or does hitting the starter just not do anything? I can even restart in the air without problems...
April 16, 200422 yr "? Does it crank and just not fire, or does hitting the starter just not do anything?"It cranks and cranks and cranks but it just doesn't fire. I thought I had accidently set the fuel tank selector to Off or to an empty aux tank but that was not the case. I tried the boost pump and I got fuel flow indicated on the gague but it still wouldn't fire. I tried various throttle, prop and mixture settings but still nothing. On one or two occasions I actually did manage to start the engine, but most of the time I just couldn't get it started. I'll probably download the update - it doesn't feel very safe flying with an engine that takes 20 minutes of cranking to fire :-lol -
April 16, 200422 yr It's wierd, but this just happened to me yesterday after months of flying the SF.260. I had shut down the engine in my default flight, and came back to it later. When I attempted to restart, it just continued to crank without catching. I eventually had to load an entirely different flight and then save that as my new default in order to get the thing to start. And, yeah, I had fuel.Like I said, only encountered this once in many flights.
