Technical question regarding weather / atis

When the tower issues the landing clearance it says "winds xx from yy - cleared to land".

Does RC take this wind from the destination airport or simple from the actual aircraft position?

 

(I had the effect that there was a wind 120/4 shown on ND down to the airport but the tower gave me a "winds calm".)

anything less than 6 knots is going to be considered calm (i think, it's been a while since i was in the atis code)

 

departure atis reads the weather from the departure airport, and arrival atis reads the weather from the arrival airport. that being said, some weather programs may make changes to the arrival weather, depending on their configuration options.

I was in the AS2012 forum and in the FSUIPC forum like "folks, there is an bug... there is wind with 5 knots and RC only says calm" - everything messed around and no solution was found. Until now, when you said, that is quite normal. :-)

 

Next time I should ask you first... :-)

Be aware that the ASE and AS2012 (in FSX) bring 'special' considerations to the table. With proper settings in AS versions and the latest service packs, plus keeping FSUIPC4 current, RC should get thee current destination weather ATIS winds when using DWC on in the FSX AS products. If not, then you'll get RC reporting the weather at your current aircraft location. This is because using DWC in the SimConnect directly by AS FSX products requires AS's Global Weather mode which means the surface weather at your aircraft location is everywhere in the virtual FS world.

 

That is what the AS support forums mostly refer to for those products regarding destination ATIS.

That is correct but after setting all up and using the latest FSUIPC and AS2012-version the problem still persists that a 5 knot wind is taken as "calm". As JD explained above, this is normal - no one except he knew - and if you dont know such things you'll drive yourself crazy in search for the problem.

FYI: I just added the info about the AS products to cover the case of ATIS not being what occurs when reaching destination. That is a frequent question here.
