Bought the GLV2000 MFD from FSD

Hi,

This is really a nice unit. The graphics are very will done. The GPS displays very nicely even when expanded on my 2nd monitor. Incredibly easy to operate and move around for information etc. The problem I have right now, and it is a big one, is this unit will not install into the Carenado Skymaster without major issues. There is a control panel you can use to install the gauge and when I select the Skymaster it states it cannot find a GPS in the panel.cfg. It then opens another window to help you locate it.

It shows you the following from the skymasters panel.cfg

00 GPS

01 Manual

02 Control Windows

03 Info

VC Virtual Cockpit

So I select 00 GPS and the information in the right pane shows the following:

00 GPS_530_3D_337!gps_500

01 CCTTS!Toggle_GPS

Then it asks you to either Select the GPS gauge in the right pane, or if you cannot locate a GPS panel window then select this "ADD" button which will add the guage into a different window in panel.cfg. I first selected the 1st line (00 GPS_530_3D_337!gps_500) and it then stated it was installed.

The gauge had issues which I will explain, but I then tried the ADD button, but that did not work either.

Here is what happened once the plane was loaded. In the VC I selected the new GPS which did Pop up. I moved it to the 2nd monitor and and adjusted the size. I then turned it on and got the splash screen. At that time, and I did not pay much attention to this because I thought it was a nice feature, but the splash screen also showed on the default Skymaster GPS in the panel. Nice touch I thought. I started fiddling with the new GPS but when I selected the menu button and then selected the "Airports" option, the default GPS in the panel showed the airport screen, but the GLV2000 did not. It remained in map mode. So I tried other options and same thing happened. Any option displayed as a result of selecting the menu button showed the correct page on the Skymaster default GPS, but not the GLV2000 which is the GPS I am using!!! I tried everything in the panel.cfg to see if I could make this work but no joy. I am now in process of getting my forum registration approved from JDS so I can post this issue. I had some time so I wanted to pass this on to you, especially those who may be thinking of purchasing. I did get it installed in some default planes and it really is a nice gauge. I cannot figure out the VNAV stuff yet to see how well it works, but everything else is very nice and everything offered by the gauge is very easy to navigate.

It seems that maybe the Carenado Skymaster has all their gauges tied together in some fashion, as the gauge itself was completely commented out of the panel.cfg file.

I wish I knew more technically what was being done here by Carenado, or by or not by FDS.

I tried installation into the Baytower and the FSD control panel could not find the panel.cfg, so I added the gauges. Not really knowing what I was doing, I just replaced their gauge with the GLV. Although I was able to pop it up, it would not turn on. It looks like at this point and time that my favorite planes will not be able to use this awesome gauge.

I did get a message to the FSD forum but no answer as of yet.

Please look into [VCOCKPIT ] section for something starting with gauge = related with the default GPS.

Hi,

Yes, that section was identified and the new gauge installed. It is much deeper than just the gauge being replaced in the proper sections of the panel.cfg. I think this gauge, being as complex as it is, will only be compatible with a handful of aircraft. So far there are only a few addon a/c that this gauge works with. I am still waiting for a reply from FSD

Just try the coordinates of the gauge in the panel.cfg. I don't know if it helps, but it is supposed so.

The problem is not with the installation of the gauge, it seems to be a compatibility issue with many of the add-on aircraft. I have tried many aircraft and only a handful seem to work. I am still awaiting a reply to this issue from FSD.

Thanks

No it is not a compatibility problem with the aircraft. But with the wide variety of developer addons and the different ways they construct their panel files, etc., it may sometimes require some custom work to get things the way you want. The Control Center utility may not be able to do that for you. But in this case we will always be happy to help you get it working.

Hi Tim,

Well that is good news indeed. I really was looking forward to using this and after all my efforts and fiddling, I could not get it to work. You just made my day. When can we start?

Do you wish to do this from your forum or here?

Tim, sorry. I sent you the cfg files in a zip file on your support forum. Let me know if you would rather me use the link included here.

I am sad... I was just going to buy this bit of kit, it looks great value for money and does everything I need. However, I think I will wait to see the outcome of an upgrade as I don't want to have to start messing around with different aircraft's cfg and so forth...

I am not sure when they might release an improvement or at least a list of which AC it does work with. I have put this one on the back burner.
