Random Ships in Gibraltar area

Featured Replies

For some reason, I am getting a bunch of random ships in the area of Aerosoft's awesome Gibraltar scenery. It was fine the last time I used it, which was probably about a month or so ago. I have obviously downloaded something that has dumped these scenery objects in the area. (Cruise ships, large sailboats etc.) They are misplaced, duplicate the shipping that is integral to the scenery and are ruining what was a perfect scenery addon. I have tried the following:

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the scenery
  • Removed all addon sceneries from the scenery.cfg file except the newly reinstalled Gib scenery
  • Looked for any obvious LXGB or Gibraltar sceneries in the main scenery folders

Nothing has worked so far. Does anybody have any ideas about this?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian

Have you tried un-ticking all of the sceneries and airports in the activation list yet? and if the ships dissapear Just reclick the payware sceneries 1 or 2 at a time and keep checking to see if those darned ships come back. Tedious stuff but I know of no other way to get it sorted. Good Luck mate John

I tried a quick and dirty solution like that - I removed ALL of the sceneries except the FS9 base and the AS Gibraltar ones from my scenery.cfg. No difference. If there had been, then I would have checked them a few at a time like you suggest.

Tks for your response John. When I find the culprit I'll post it so it might help someone else. (I have had nightmare experiences with the Aerosoft Launcher corrupting files and I have a suspicion it's done it again!)

What kind of ships are they? I ask because Fly Tampa's St Maarten scenery has AI ships in it and if your Gibraltar has the same type of ships you might want to check the Fly Tampa ships, maybe they are the trouble.

Thanks - but no. I've narrowed it down to a file that is in my addon scenery/scenery folder. I've eliminated all the others as suspects. And I think I've found the culprit - I'm working on it. In another hour or so I think I will have nailed the little b---er.

Hi Ian

The MS Restore Point would help with those problems too LOL.............John

And the culprit was - drum roll please - a file named AIG_LXGB_ADE9_KPK_Default.bgl

I am sure the person who included this in an upload meant no harm by it whatsoever - but I sure wish people who upload stuff for people like the rest of us to download would warn us if their installer is going to put files in our FS9 installation that we don't know about. Where this one came from I have no idea, other than it must have been recent. I do have a dummy FS9 "installation" on my C drive that I use if I suspect a download might do something like this. By putting everything into empty folders I can then take a look at them before putting them in my real FS9. But obviously this didn't arouse my suspicions and so I just wasted hours of time trying to find something that shouldn't have been there. And you've just wasted several minutes reading my ranting and raving! LOL Sorry, just venting

Cheers

Ian

Well, Glade to hear you got it sorted Ian. I spent hours and hours the other day correcting many many Repaint Textures before I could install them all. I do very much appreciate the people who spend their time creating them but nearly half of what I fixed were all made by the same person. Ah well nough said...Catch ya later mate...........John

Ian - a search of the library indicates that the offending file is an Afcad made by Alpha India Group for Gibraltar, as the file naming convention is identical to several of their Afcad files available in the Avsim library. I didn't see one specifically for LXGB in the library, but perhaps it's part of a larger package.

Thanks - I figured it originated from them but as the only downloads I recall using from them have just been AI flight plan files that I then compile myself, I don't think it got to my computer directly from them. I agree that someone quite innocently used it in a larger package. I just wish they had put a warning (like MAIW always does) that there were files in there that might conflict with existing afcads etc. Oh well, stuff happens... Tks to all who tried to help or at least took the time to read the post in case they might have been able to help. This community really is full of some very amazing people
