Hello all. I'm sure if this post does not belong in this forum, it will be taken out, but I'll take the chance.

 

What happened I don't know but it's driving me crazy. It all started when trying to install a third party freebie aircraft.

 

I now get the error message "FS cannot run from a restricted user account and will now quit. Log on using an

administrator account and restart FS".

 

Since I installed Vista Home Premium, 64 bit, when it came out, I have always been the administrator. I got

tired of being asked for "permission to contine" so I turned off User Account Control. Never had a bit of

problems. So, in the past week, I've tried to start FS using the administrator account with UAC on and off

to no avail. So, I set up a standard account and FS works. But I'm trying to get it back the way it was.

Any suggestions with what info I've given or do I need to uninstall and reinstall Windows.

Maybe someday MAC will come out with an OS that will run FS.

Where have you installed FS9.... best to install outside of the default program files

try right clicking and click run as administrator.. or try creating a new user in the administrator group... also your fs9.exe is read only checked? you should check for a virus also

I think Jordan means you should right click on fs9.exe and change one of its properties...

 

I understand that in Vista programs themselves must have administrator rights so that they can manipulate any files they need to change. Somewhere in the Properties for fs9.exe there will be an option to 'Run as Administrator'. Checking that option will give fs9.exe permission to alter other files.

 

Personally though, I think the problem lies with the restricted access you gave to yourself. Switch back to your Administrator account; I would have thought there'd be an option for switching off confirmatory messages.

 

Also, as pschlute mentioned, don't install programs to the default program files folder... it has extra protection. Make your own ../games/ folder and install to there instead.

No, I don't think it's stupid. Microsoft have done this for a reason.

 

However, there's no problem in installing FS9 to the Program Files folder provided you change the permissions to that folder and its sub-folders and files to give you full access rights. That's where I have always installed FS9 and I have no problems in running the program.

 

However, I do recognise that not everyone by any means would either know about or want to mess around with permissions in which case installing FS9 outside of the Program Files folder is an excellent option.

 

I just want to expose the myth that some people put forward that you cannot run FS9 if you install it in the Program Files structure, that's all.
