I just installed the Realty GNS 530. This is the best thing I have added to FSX so far. Instrument flying is so much easier.

 

Question: How do you adjust the brightness on the G500?

I'd recommend the G500 mods from either bliksimpie or Bert.

But for the sheer brightness control, you have to use the right hand knob. Be aware that it uses two different areas for the interaction. So the upper area of the knob reacts to the mousewheel and changes the main pages, the lower area does too and alters the sub pages, then you can also click the knob for pressing it.

 

You switch the pages with the mousewheel areas (keep in mind the different page types) and you activate/deactivate the data entry mode by pressing the (3) knob.

 

You want to end up here for adjusting the brightness.

Note the upper left DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS section. Press the knob to activate the cursor and then alter the value by using the mousewheel.

Too bad the G500 will not show the flight plan entered in the GNS 530.

Get on the reality XP forums, there is a guy there who can hook you up with a updater for the GNS that will show the magenta line on your G500

Yes, write to Bert Pieke. That RXP update streams the flight plan to FSX, therefore the other gauges can show it. It works very good and enhances that G500 display a lot. Still keep the G500 mods in mind since only those tweaks allow the RXP to display the glidepath on the G500. Same for the traffic information for example.

Thanks for the link to the click spots and panel light switch .. like you said, easier to just remove the yoke!
