No Exterior Model Showing in Exterior View Mode

Featured Replies

Had a C; (root) drive failure. FSX is totally backed up on external drive. I have lost my FSX external model views, no external model is showing. Please read my situation, as this has never happened to me before now and it was working a few days ago.

I installed new HD, Win7 - 64 bit, and have almost completely reinstalled all my operating software and applications, of which there are many.

I did a reinstall of FSX Acceleration (required to have FSX working correctly), then used a registry utility to link in my main FSX install. Copied my backup of settings, which includes all the flights, scenery cfg, my tweaked fsx.cfg. Everything was working fantastic.

I continued to install various software, mostly movie rendering stuff, and various utilities that I use in my movie/slideshow making hobby.

Last night I fired up FSX and started to fly around, went to exterior view and found that I had no external model visable of any of my planes. I did a restart of my computer, I did a full cold reboot. Nada, nothing...still now external models showing but full interior VC views are present.

I did some searches about this problem and found a bunch of older posts and stuff that seemed to be plane specific.

Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Is this some sort of compatibility issue with other installed software?

Could I try doing some restores going back in time to see if some settings have been changes that is the issue?

Any suggestions of help would be most welcome.

Got the same problem after installing some addons. The trick which worked for me was renaming the fsx.cfg to fsx_old.cfg so that FSX will create a new one when you start it.

Good luck! :)

You got A/C shadow switched on? This sometimes occurs when they're on..

Yikes...I have a typical heavily tweaked FSX.cfg, but yes I could save my current and do a re-creation and see what happens as a result.

No aircraft shadows but good suggestion.

tried the rebuild fsx.cfg, this did not fix the issue....so am restoring to my original fsx.cfg.

Any other ideas what causes this?

FIXED!! After attempting the above. I decided to do a restore uninstalling a Cyberlink video product.

The restore worked and my FSX is back working properly. I can only guess that this particular product installed some video related driver that might have conflicted with my FSX. Also I am not sure if I had my FSX running at the time of the install.

So knowing that I seem to be able to restore back safely I will test a re-install of this software and ensure everything is NOT running.

phew!! I feel so much better.
