May 3, 201214 yr Is there a way to switch off the annoying traffic at.... calls every 20 seconds or so ? I fly with a lot of AI traffic but it's not customary in RVSM airspace to be alerted to every aircraft in the vicinity at different flight levels.than the one you're flying.at. Martin Martin Bunjes
May 3, 201214 yr Make sure prerecorded chatter is turned off and just select ai chatter with interact with ai on. RC should only be responding to ai for the center altitude stratum you are on. Approach and departure you'll hear most. Also you'll only hear what frequency you have been assigned to such as tower. You will hear calls to ai and yourself for conflict avoidance/traffioc aslerts and aircraft within a certain proximity to you.
May 4, 201214 yr Author Thanks for your reply. This is exactly how I've set it up. So there's no way to increase this proximity ? Because i really don't want to hear calls for planes even a thousand foot separated from me, which should be normal in RVSM. Martin Bunjes
May 4, 201214 yr So there's no way to increase this proximity? Because i really don't want to hear calls for planes even a thousand foot separated from me, which should be normal in RVSM. Yes, I agree that constantly being given information on traffic that is properly separated is an irritation and not the practice in our part of the world but, as far as I know, there's no way to change this. You have to remember that Radar Contact is American in origin and, therefore, firmly based on FAA procedures. Serious work to produce a version using ICAO procedures for flights outside the US began in version 3 and continued in version 4. Although this unnecessary traffic information problem was raised several times in the development team, there were so many more fundamental differences in ICAO and FAA procedures to be worked on, along with general work on improving and expanding the program's capabilities, that it never quite made it to the top of the to-do list. As with all programs, there are inevitably things that don't make it into the final release version and this, I'm afraid, was one of them. Pete
May 8, 201214 yr I wished it called out traffic for me. I've had several close calls on a flight i'm doing right now. First, I crossed with 1.5mi of a British Airways plane while we crossed altitudes. I also had another flight fly right on top of me with 500 feet. I'm sorry to say but I'm not very impressed with RCv4.3 at all. I've had more near misses that i've ever had using the MS ATC. Also, RC made me land on the runway while there was another plane lined up ready for takeoff. Also, I heard the ATC give 3 planes behind me clearances to land while I was still on final WITH that plane of the runway. Whats up with that??? Am I doing something wrong or it is the program messing up royally??
May 8, 201214 yr Let's check your RC settings: Interact with ai on. Prerecorded chatter off AI chatter on. Autotune comms on is the safest since frequencies might differ from charts. Be sure your fsuipc is up to date from: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/ If ai suddenly appear climbing fast into the protection altitude strata RC may not catch it. If using the FSX UT2 traffic application be sure it is set to render the ai at maximum distance from your aircraft. Regarding approaches: Be sure you have makerws up-to-date from; http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/ and rebuild your RC scenery database after installing insuring you are giving the correct path to your version of FS. If the scenery data is not correct RC will not see your location with respect to runways correctly. To avoid confusion FS ATC should be running but its audio turned down. FS should be seeing your aircraft. For additional protection on approach consider using the freeware utility aismooth version 1.2. It is in the FSX utility section here and also works in FS9. It will also keep aircraft on approach separate from you and space them out from each other allowing more efficient interlacing of take-off and departure aircraft by placing approaching ai in holding patterns as needed. Turn user aircraft response on and disable Show ATC Messages and Speak ATC messages in its settings. I have seen enroute aircraft change course to fly parallel to my track to avoid enroute collision. RC will help but but it is also FS's responsibility to recognize your aircraft for ai. I also choose to install TCAS gauges in all of my panels direct or for small GA as a pop-up to show ai aircraft for situational awareness.
