Home Cockpits.

Featured Replies

It seems to be such a singular phenomenon. Every once in a while you see proudly displayed yet another new flightsim home cockpit. Each one represents a significant expenditure of time, money skill and effort (not to mention the presence of a patient and tolerant spouse!) and speaks of a level of commitment few can ever hope to match.

Its amazing, and I suspect many wonder what it would be like to have one. Some, I bet, after a few calculations may even conclude they do have the money to construct such a thing if they really tried. Then, if they are anything like me, they think of the likely reaction of their significant others, and proceed to cringe for the rest of the day. :LMAO:

My real question is why we never seem to see an equal level of commitment from other simulations?

Try as I might, I was unable to find any other simulation-hobby that inspired enthusiasm to the level necessary for construction of a home cockpit. Though trains may take up similar or more time and effort to create a private little basement world, I never see cockpits. I wonder why that is?

(we will leave out the bridge of the Enterprise in peoples garages)

To the professionals: Does this seem like a good base to start from? http://secure.simmar...pit-plans.phtml

I know someone that has recreated some of the interior of a Lotus Exige/Elise for playing GT5. I'll try to find some pics of it. I also know someone else that has full motion (I think) setup for a commercial venture using rFactor.

Whenever I have seen anything like that in the past, its usually been a modification of some sort of arcade game cockpit. Usually its hydraulic, with full motion to simulate g-effects. I rarely see home flight sims like that; It seems the technical aspects of flight are usually the focus there, rather than the sensation.
