Text Issues

Featured Replies

Have scoured Google to no avail; posted on Simviation's forums and got no replies; even searched this forum and found nothing relevant; so here I go again. =P

Reinstalled Flight Sim 9 recently after upgrading to Windows 7 a while back. Surprisingly few issues, but one rather annoying glitch remains. Text in certain menus seems to lag behind, under-lapping and obscuring the new text that is supposed to take its place. This happens in various settings menus- realism, control assignments, display settings, etc- and while selecting planes, airports and user-defined weather. It's really an effect best shown-

These are just a couple examples. It also happens on the load bar once I'm ready to fly. I'm also getting weird black boxes behind the variables descriptions in the user-defined weather menu. All in all, it's proving quite difficult to read certain parts of this game...

It's been like this since I first installed it on my new system, so I'm certain its not an addon to blame. I've tried every compatibilty mode available, too, with no change. So hopefully someone here can figure out what's going on! XD

Hi

I'm no expert here but there are two things I would try before anything else.

Firstly, do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?

Secondly, I see you have dual monitors. Do you still get this problem if you disconnect one of them? I would try each one of them on their own and see what happens.

I also see that your GeForce 9400 only has 512mb VRAM. Personally, I would never use a card with less than 1024mb.

Hope this may help you in some way.

David

I think this is a fonts problem. You need to transfer FS9 fonts (from install discs) to Windows 7. fonts folder..

UPDATE: Mmk, there was indeed a driver update; installed, rebooted, still get the same results. Tried running the game on each monitor, didn't change much. As for my poor ol' rig, I don't have the money to upgrade her, but I've had more trouble with my 2gb system RAM than my Geforce's VRAM, especially with a game as old as FS9 (which, aside from this pesky menu glitch, works and runs fine).

Also copied those fonts from the Install disc to C:\Windows\Fonts. Again, no joy.

Hmmm .. sorry my recollection proved inaccurate. This problem has been previosly raised (and solved) here in this forum. Try searching. If unsuccessful try downloading the series "Tips and Tricks" by Opa Marshall, Flight Simulator 2004 - Miscellaneous Files. Heaps of good info there anyway.

Like I've said, I've searched high and low thru Google and two dedicated flight sim sites. I see similar issues with different bits of text in completely different parts of the game that work just fine for me, but nothing related to text ghosting in menus. A lack of results is why I'm posting.

As for Mr. Marshall's work, thanks for pointing me in that direction. I haven't found anything related to my issue, but nevertheless his findings are very interesting!
