The Planes of Just Cause 2

Recommended Posts

So it's far from a flight sim, but it's got quite a selection of aerial vehicles, and jaw-slackening visuals to back it all up (even on my meager rig). I've taken it upon myself to create a gallery showcasing one of my personal favorite places to fly... virtually, at least! (Take note that while most of these planes are inspired by real-life vehicles, the names and faces have been changed by the game's devs to protect the innocent... and avoid copyright issues...) Note- click the pics to see the full-sized 1024x768 screens.

To kick it off, a lovely evening shot of the game's faux Honda Jet, and the moment that inspired this gallery.

Now, to the tour! Bearing a resemblance to the Eurocopter EC-135, these two have externalized turbine engines. You'll see another version of this 'copter later on without the external jets.

Here's a quaint little mix-up of a Piper Arrow and a Piper Tomahawk, coming off a dusty dirt runway in the desert region...

rZDxCl.jpg

... and here's the player character, Rico, standing on the roof. Yes, this game is that fun.

On to a military air base. This Harrier look-alike is sadly not VTOL-capable.

YL7v2l.jpg

A gorgeous, tho less maneuverable, play on the Su-47 Flanker. Its handling (and heavy-duty armaments) result in this being more of a strafe-running missile bomber.

You're darn right I'll take one... all the way to Panau International Airport!

iDUCol.jpg

Seeing as that commuter jet is a cross between a 737 and an A320/A321, this is one super-sized Flanker...

Mmk, rule section says nine images per post, so I've got about two more posts-worth of pretty pics to follow. Think I'll save that for tomorrow, tho!

The problem I have with shots like this (really nice BTW) from other games is that your game gets FR's through the roof from low end computers (this is a general statement and not a shot at your rig) while most of us have to buy high end computers to get bearable performance from FSX. Tain't Fair!! Tain't Fair!!Just%20Kidding.gif

Nice screenies.

Yeah, woodhick, I agree! I just tried the FSX demo again recently, and it still ran like a flipbook. So I'm stuck on FS9 (and Just Cause 2 :P) til I have the change to build a new rig...

Anyway, where were we... oh! Earlier I had mentioned the jet-less version of our Eurocopter look-a-bit-like; well, here she is, in a firey yellow and black livery.

ccpx5l.jpg

Later on, when the sun had set on downtown, I looked up my personal favorite amongst the game's whirlybirds, a Robinson R-22-inspired sprite named the Rowlinson K-22 (they aren't always subtle about their mimicry).

zlR3El.jpg

It takes off in seconds and is the fastest 'copter in the game once upgraded (like this one). Fully-upgraded models are quite capable of defending themselves or, in the case of some missions, going on the offense. Those dual machine guns won't punch thru heavier armor, tho.

LL8eCl.jpg

Mmk, the authorities are none too pleased now! Time to get out of town with one of the game's many easter eggs... and not just because it's painted like one.

d3pcGl.jpg

Yup, a hot air ballon! Cut (or shoot) off the sandbags, then hop in and fire up the burner. It's even steered by weight-shifting (running around the basket)! It's none too fast, but once you're up high enough, you can climb up on top and then use it as a base-jumping platform.

rnCP7l.jpg

Unfortunately, some off-screen tom-foolery wound up with the kit 'copter getting beaten up and flipped over by a gang of hostile trees... good chance to show off the damage model, tho! It then lit on fire and exploded about a split second after I took this shot.

o9sHCl.jpg

But when your vehicle takes a turn for the worse- or even if you just can't find one to begin with- Rico's awesome reusable parachute and grappler come into play!

z70nel.jpg

Just get a bit of speed by falling or pulling yourself with the grapple, pull the chute, and you're off! Use the grapple again for a burst of speed if you're not high enough up to dive.

And that's not all! We'll head back to Panau International later to pick up a faster ride, then check out the country's line-up of military copters. Stay tuned!

After a couple off-days of either not feeling like sorting hotlinks or not having the time, here's the conclusion to our little air tour of Panau!

Mmk, as mentioned, time to pick out a new ride. It's quite hard for an airliner not to be the first thing you spot...

Xs8vbl.jpg

Now I know what you're thinkin'- "But wait, all you ever do is bail out! THINK OF THE PEOPLE!" Relax, it's empty on the tarmac, and we're heading to another runway.

wM17ll.jpg

So sit back and enjoy the view!

AMs80l.jpg

Now, when I mentioned a "faster ride," I was not referring to the whaleplanes that really don't fit my style. I was referring to THIS-

8wE1Gl.jpg

In-game, it's called the Pell Silverbolt 6. The wiki suggests it may be based off the Messerschmitt Komet, or the Bede BD-5. All I can say for sure is that it's tiny, shiny, and blisteringly fast- the fastest and most agile in the game, making complete jokes of the military stuff (flight-wise; the Silverbolt is unarmed, so its purely for getting across the map).

vdnLml.jpg

Speaking of military stuff, they still do have the best selection around when it comes to blowing things to bits! First up, the ariel weapon of choice for the police forces of Panau- the Chippewa, a vehicle very reminiscient of the MH-6 Little Bird, tho somewhat bigger. These always come with dual miniguns, and some can be found with rocket pods.

t6c2sl.jpg

The Toppachula can be found at many military bases throughout Panau. It's slower and heavier than the Chip, but also more durable, and ALWAYS comes equipped with dual miniguns AND dual rocket pods. Note the tail configuration- Eidos probably intended this to have a coaxial rotor, which I think would have been pretty cool.

Uc51ul.jpg

Finally, the 'Agency' the main character works for will eventually supply you with the Havoc. Initially equipped with a single chin-mounted minigun, once fully upgraded it also sports a pair of rocket pods. Its armor and agility put it right between the above two 'copters. You'll rarely see the military/police using this bird. Despite sharing a name with the Mi-28, it seems more closely based off the AH-1 Supercobra.

hS10Il.jpg

Almost forgot this one! Based off real-world big rigs like the Globemaster and Galaxy, the Bering I-86 is bar none the biggest plane in the game. It may also be the rarest, as it only spawns at a couple air bases, and stops spawning once you finish all objectives in those bases.

FpngXl.jpg

And that's a wrap! For all these pics, and a couple that didn't make it into the final post, here's a link to the whole album on Imgur here. There's also one DLC plane that I don't yet have- the F-33 Dragonfly- that you can check out on the JC2 wiki here.

Hope you enjoyed!

Whoops, sorry. Didn't think it would hurt to double post after a couple days, if just to finish the picture series. Will keep that in mind next time.
