Kittyhawk B737-800

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is an issue that has been discussed but I am finding the KH 738 to be too unstable in turns. For eg. the airplane tends to pitch down if one is in a descent and turning on to a final approach course for the ILS, the plane will start to 'hunt' the g/s and will be osscilating up and down until it crashes. Is this just with me or is there a fix?Shez

HI,I had looked at an article posted in the WWW.SGAIR.NET forum that the "stations" section of the aircraft.cfg file should all have double quotes ( " ) after the equal signs for all the numbers like so:station_load.0 = "170.0, 41.0, -1.5, 0.0, Pilot" station_load.1 = "170.0, 41.0, 1.5, 0.0, Co-Pilot" The KittyHawk aircraft.cfg does NOT have these quotes. So I went and placed quotes for each of the 60 station entries - still crashing when I modify payload, but it does not crash after modiying fuel.I then REDUCED the no. of stations from 60 to 50, basing it on the default 737-400 and still crashes after payload modification.***By the way WHAT DID WORK WAS THIS but it caused an imbalance in the plane's weight, making it very difficult to land:** Copying and pasting the entire section of the stations from the default 737-400 of FS9 to the aircraft.cfg of the KittyHawk plane, replacing what KittyHawk put there. After this both payload and fuel could be modified without any problems but landing was next to impossible without getting extremely aggravated. The plane would continue to move to one side; I would correct it, then it would move to the other side and on and on and on...!!! When I use the default KittyHawk without any payload or fuel modifications, the plane would behave normally again so the Microsoft payload configuration obviously unbalances the KittyHawk 737-800.KittyHawk obviously has NOT DONE THEIR HOMEWORK! ... They also have pretty lousy support as my email from yesterday still goes unanswered and I know of no website for them...I just deleted the plane from FS9. If they reply and provide solutions - like a properly working aircraft, then I may re-install it.John

I have the same problem with trying to change fuel and payload from the sim, so I just make the changes in the cfg and reload the plane. I am using Kittyhawk's B737-800 released in May, and it is the "Flight Sim Conference 2004 edition". I have no performance or handling problems at all with it. Also, the Weignt and Balance part of the CFG file doesn't look like the one described above. Here is the one included in the edition I have:[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]max_gross_weight = 174200 // (pounds)empty_weight = 90560 // (pounds)reference_datum_position= 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)empty_weight_CG_position= 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 // (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from specified datummax_number_of_stations=50station_load.0 = "240.0, 60.0, -1.9, 0.0, Pilot" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.1 = "140.0, 60.0, 1.9, 0.0, Co-Pilot" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.2 = "500.0, 55.0, 0.0, 0.0, Crew" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.3 = "1200.0, 52.0, 0.0, 3.8, First Class" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.4 = "3500.0, 42.0, 0.0, 3.8, Coach 3-8" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.5 = "3500.0, 18.0, 0.0, 3.8, Coach 9-15" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.6 = "4000.0, -6.0, 0.0, 3.8, Coach 16-22" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.7 = "4000.0, -34.0, 0.0, 3.8, Coach 23-28" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)station_load.8 = "10500.0, 15.0, 0.0,-4.1, Forward Baggage" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet) station_load.9 = "5600.0, -25.0, 0.0,-1.0, Aft Baggage" //Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 3309775.603 //Moments of Inertiaempty_weight_roll_MOI = 1937410.657empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 4120327.737empty_weight_coupled_MOI = 824.066CG_forward_limit = 0.000CG_aft_limit = 1.000 Take Care - Steve

Do you mean when you fly on Autopilot ??If so:A few adjustments in the aircraft.cfg Autopilot section will help alot.nav_proportional_control=12 //Original: 9.000000gs_proportional_control=25 //Original: 9.520000gs_integrator_control=0.53 //Original: 0.260000These are values from the default B737-400, which work much better. With these values (when in Approach mode), it will turn nicely when it intercepts the localiser, and will maintain glideslope easily after capture. And lands perfectly.Of course provided you have the right approach/landing configuration and speed.Cheers, Rob BarendregtPS.And to "Byrna"."" .....They also have pretty lousy support as my email from yesterday still goes unanswered .....""Are you serious ????Do you really judge a freeware "company"'s support by failing to answer your Email within a day ????No wonder so many freeware designers just give up with attitudes like yours :-( :-(

Actually, their answer is not the important thing here, I judge a freeware company MAINLY by their inability to design a properly functional aircraft which has serious flaws in one of its basic design characteristics. I was just frustrated with this mainly but YES, I have had answers within HOURS of sending email from freeware designers which I truly appreciate and love. Their dedication to their work is awe-inspiring and admirable.I'M NOT THE ONE WITH THE WRONG ATTITUDE, Kitty Hawk is - for being so negligent!John

>KittyHawk obviously has NOT DONE THEIR HOMEWORK! ... They also>have pretty lousy support as my email from yesterday still>goes unanswered and I know of no website for them...Wow, I had no idea that a freeware group had an obligation to provide support? When did this happen?

John, that's not the attitude towards a freeware "company". They might created (and I'm not saying here they do) the worst product you can imagine and provide the worst support you might think of and still you have to respect and appreciate what they are providing to you for free. If you don't like it go out and do it yourself, that simple. Now, you are entitled to your opinion and *rating* a freeware product in my opinion is a good thing, that might give them (the developers) an extra incentive, but complaining because they don't give you support?, or because they didn't make this or that better? That shouldn't be the way.Carlos.

Good idea. I tried it and it definitely improved the ILS capture.Shez

I'm sorry: I should have added the file name anyway. Here it is:Right here on AVSIM, it is b738ifc.zip Hope you have the same good experience as I with it. Have Fun!

THanks again!I actually copied and posted the parameters from your posting into my aircraft.cfg and everything works now. But I'll probably download the full correct version which for some strang reason did not show up in any of my searches.John

I had trouble finding it again, too. I had no luck with "Kittyhawk" as a search, so I tried "Convention 2004", and found it that way.

Actually, be careful about this airplane - it is NOT the same as the other one I have. The ENGINES ARE DIFFERENT - they are CFM56-7B24 NOT 7B26 so they have LESS THRUST (about 24,000 lbs instead of the 26,000) so the FDE is not the same.I noticed this and decided to leave the aircraft.cfg as it is, simply being content to copy/paste the portions you posted although the MOI's are probably for the 7B24's not the 7B26's. I'll try to change that back to see if it still works (it should for the main problem was modifying the payload).I also discovered that I had altered my CH flightsim yoke settings BOTH in the CH control manager AND in FS9 which caused possibly (not sure yet) irratic behaviour. I'll know more when I switch back the MOI section to what it was originally in the download I had (which had the 60 stations) from AVSIM under KittyHawk (not the one you told me under the IFC.John

HI again Steve,I just realized something else I forgot to mention: the filename you gave does NOT have the same specs for the MOI's as in the aircraft.cfg section you posted earlier (the one which had station.load.0 through 9). I think there may be another file that you obtained somewhere which is the one you posted on this forum. Let me know. I would like, like all serious flight simmers, to have the correct flight dynamics for a particular airplane when I fly it (as much as is possible of course).John
