Editing existing aircraft mdl in Gmax

Featured Replies

Doing a search there is an old topic from 2003 on doing this. I admit that I am a newbie, and that I am jumping into the deep end, BUT..

What is the best process for importing an FSX .mdl into GMax for editing, and then back the other way?

I've done some searches, but nothing that seems to make sense to me, and recently posted. I sincerely appreciate anyones assistance in this process. My goal is to edit an FSX B350 by adding some military sensors in an attempt to create an MC-12W.

I have GMax 2.0.0 installed.

This type of thing is typically frowned upon unless you have the direct permission of the author, or you are not planning on releasing it to anyone else.

If the above is true, then you can use ModelConverterX to convert it to a 3DS file, which can be loaded into GMAX. Then all vertices need to be welded, the polygons smoothed, and the plane reanimated. You will also need to click the little blue and white cube for each material with a texture to see that on the model.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom for the reply. I fully understand the situation.

Even though if it is possible (barely), it truly isn't practical. Frankly it would be easier to simply start from scratch and build your own... :Nerd:
