Drivers for FSX and PMDG Aircraft

Featured Replies

Hello

In FSX I have been experiencing very strange shadow errors and flickering of airport scenery in the last few days since I have started using FSX again after my exams. This gets especially worse with addon scenery sometimes covering the entire ground for no reason. This is very abnormal even for FSX and I think that this was not a problem before I updated my drivers. I think that I am on a bad driver for FSX and was hoping that somebody could recommend me a driver for FSX that is stable for them in the hope of it also working for me. FSX is pretty much blank apart from the few addons below and CFG tweaks. I am running a nVidia GTX580.

P.S Would have posted in the hardware forum but I was looking for a driver that people find stable with the NGX running at the higher texture resolutions.

Do you happen to have DX10 Preview turned on in the FSX display options by any chance?

Well, if it helps, I'm on v296.10 but am running a GTX 560 (non-Ti). This version is working fine for me.

I will take a look in the morning to see f that is available for the 580, I may also if I have time try upgrading first rather than downgrading as there was good conversation about some beta drivers lately here on the forums however I cannot find what they were.

Will definitely post back what I find to be a stable version specific for this graphic cards.

Pretty much every Nvidia GeForce driver (except maybe the R300 set) made since the 580 was released and many before that will work with the GTX580. I've also ran the 296.10's with great results, but have since changed to the 301.42's for better performance in BF3 (FSX still runs awesome).

Different drivers work better from system to system, your best bet is to simply try a few sets and see what works best for you.

I've said it a ton of times before but it bears repeating - Nvidia is not making changes in the driver for FSX. FSX is 6 years old and I doubt anything relating to it has been modified in many many years in the driver. They periodically add new global features to the drivers that will work in any game like FXAA and the Vsync stuff in the recent releases, but there's no one sitting there optimizing performance in FSX or breaking things that used to work in FSX.

I'm on the latest 301.42s and aside from those new global features, the sim looks and performs exactly the same as it has for years to me.

strange shadow errors and flickering of airport scenery

might be caused by scenery layers sorted in a wrong order (?).. there is a rule how landclass, mesh and other layers should be "stacked".. unfotunately i don't remember at the moment..
