May 16, 200422 yr i want to get a good set of headphones and a boom mike for m/p flying, which brand/model to you all recomend?thanksciao!Brian S Ciao!
May 16, 200422 yr hmmm... a great question... never thought about it...they do have one normal and one really big jack, so i guess the question really is, do these two correspond to the mic-in-phone-out holes in the sound card? and if yes, is it a simple matter of finding adapter jacks? how about impedance? better question still--has anyone tried it?wow, looks like david clark's gonna see an unexpected surge in sales soon!:-lolps. an extra benefit to gaming in dc's: no way you gonna hear your family nagging you to surrender the computer. :-)

May 16, 200422 yr It's definitely possible. The problem I see is that FS puts out sim sounds (engine, wind etc.) and ATC on the same channels. This is a problem because aircraft headsets are likely designed to give a good response when playing back speech and they probably lack the frequency response needed for accurate engine sounds and other ambient sounds. The requirements on headphones meant for entertainment and music are completely different to those of headsets meant to provide clear and crisp speech. The ideal solution is of course to have a pair of really good speakers for those sounds, and have ATC speech routed to the headset. I'm not sure this is possible at all with default ATC. It could very well be possible with the third-party multiplayer voicechat programs however. Check before you buy. -
May 16, 200422 yr good point... i just wouldn't like to be your neighbour when you crank up your speakers to hear the environment through your david clarks :)
May 16, 200422 yr That's one big advantage of living in the Swedish countryside - 1 km to the nearest neighbour :-lolIf you live in a detached house with a cellar, you could relocate your FS hobby...people will probably still wonder what's going on in your house though. -
May 16, 200422 yr and one more thing to consider, apart from the difference of requirements the tools were built for, i have yet to find an aviation headset that would come close to my sony, akg and sennheiser pro sets in comfort. they're generally heavy and tight. that's why i still rent them, not one set has made me cry "i want i want" yet. :)
