2 questions/issues when flying a 2nd leg

Featured Replies

Haven't flown for a while until the last few days due to a rebuild of my FSX rig but now I'm back in business

Most of the time I only have time for one leg but today I had the chance to fly a second leg without quitting FSX and FS2Crew in between and I noticed two things which I'm not sure if it's just me doing something wrong or if they are issues and if so maybe already reported ones so excuse me if that's the case.

First thing I noticed was that when I asked the ground crew to disconnect external power after the preflight checklist was completed I never received a confirmation from the ground crew when the external power indeed was connected, just noticed it myself since the EXT PWR light on the overhead panel extinguished.

Then the second thing I noticed was when AES ground crew asked me to release the parking brake that nothing happened when I did and sure enough when I checked the ground connections I noticed wheel chocks were set so I had to manually remove them via the FMC to have the push-back start. Strange thing is that I did check this earlier and noticed wheel chocks were in place which is 100% correct and I then thought to myself now it will be interesting to see if they will be removed automatiacally in time for the push-back and I did see how my FO removed them using the FMC on his side but appearently they for some reason then was set again...?

Thanks in advance for any input, tips or comments and happy flying everyone, it's sooo good to be back in the air again with the FS2Crew FO  after weeks of mounting fans inside the computer case, trying to figure out what memory sticks to use, how to achieve the best and most stable overclock etc etc...

Hmm...68 views but not a single reply...are you guys all seeing the same issues I do or am I the only one seeing this...?

I also noticed I typo on my part in my post above, should of course have been

"First thing I noticed was that when I asked the ground crew to disconnect external power after the preflight checklist was completed I never received a confirmation from the ground crew when the external power indeed was disconnected, just noticed it myself since the EXT PWR light on the overhead panel extinguished"

Then regarding issue nr two about the wheel chocks...I think the problem is that the FS2Crew FO for some reason first remove the chocks and then set them again. Not sure about this behaviour since it's always working 100% fine on the first leg.

Then to add a third observation regarding turn-around flights in FS2Crew and I think I asked about this once before but shouldn't the FO make sure the APU is running and if not start it during his preflight flow also on a turn-around flight or is it assumed you would always leave the APU running between two legs?

Hi Richard,

1. Not sure. Anyone else ever experience that?

2. Wheel chocks. Hard to say. 2nd leg uses much of the same code from the first leg.

3. Depends on your power settings. You may or may not be using external power. However, if you left the APU during the shutdown procedure, the FO should not attempt to start the APU on the 2nd leg.

Cheers,

Hi Bryan,

1 and 2. I see this on every flight during the same conditions (on turn-around flights) so it's not a one-time-only kind of issue in my end.

3. When at the origin the GPU is connected and the FO starts the APU and when getting close to departure I ask the FO to put the APU on the bus and the ground crew to disconnect external power. Then prior to arriving at the destination I always have to remember resetting the power source to APU/GPU since it for some reason always reverts back to only APU. Then during the after landing flow the FO starts the APU and when gettings close to the gate I ask him to put the APU on the bus. Then when arriving at the gate I shut down engine nr 2 when FO says he's ready for that and ask the ground crew to connect external power and once completed I shut down engine nr 2. Then after the following dialogs that the slides have been disarmed and the chocks are in place and the doors are opened I shut the APU down and close all fuel pumps and then run through the shutdown checklist with the FO. Then if I at this point start the preflight again for a second leg the FO won't start the APU but I have to do this manually and also I will see the issues described in 1 and 2 above...the ground crew when asked to disconnect the external power will do that but they won't confirm it has been done like they always do on the first flight and when AES askes me to release the parking brake I must manually remove the chocks using the FMC interface and this is also something I never have to do on the first flight so something indeed is different between the first leg and any additional legs flown "in a row" sort of speak.

It's very seldom, that I fly a second leg, but when I did last time, I experienced the same as you Richard.

Kind regards

Peter

Okay, I'll check into and try to reproduce that issue on the 2nd leg.

However, are you 'skipping' anything on the first leg, or are you doing the flight in full?

Reason is because certain variables get 'reset' for the 2nd leg at different stages in the 1st leg, so if you skip certain events, certain variables will not get reset, so the associated event won't play on the 2nd leg.

Cheers,

The only thing I'm skipping is the Secure the Aircraft.

Kind regards

Peter

Same thing here, not skipping anything other than securing the aircraft and some time during preflight when no events take place like between 8 minutes when the loadsheet is handed to you and 1 minute when you're informed the cabin is ready. Also I'm not performing any anti-icing events etc, not sure if that also would be of interest to you?

Thanks for looking into this Bryan, looking forward to hear about your findings.
